This looks interesting, only 10km from me so I will be signing up.
I have nothing to do with the event so I cant answer any questions about it.

    Link: http://www.meathsports.ie/communities/cycle-tour0.html

Greg LeMond (former professional cyclist from the United States and a three-time winner of the Tour de France) will be in Trim on October 7th to participate in the HADD Charity cycle. Greg LeMond became the first American and the first non-European cyclist to win the Tour de France. He is one of eight cyclists to have won the Tour three or more times.
The HADD charity cycle takes place as part of ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) awareness week and is organised in association with Meath Local Sports Partnership and Clonard Cycle Club. Greg LeMond has ADHD and as a result of this, is a huge supporter of the charity internationally.
On the day, there will be 2 distances for cyclists to chose from– 40km & 10km family spin. Both distances start and finish at the Knightsbrook Hotel, Trim, Co.Meath. Cyclists can book online for the 40k up until 5pm Thursday 4th October at the cost of €20; registration on the day for the 40k will cost €25. Family registration will be taken only on the day – cost for family participation: €3 per child under 16 years & €6 for all other participants over 16years. All proceeds go directly to the HADD charity.

The 40k spin will commence at 12.30pm with the family spin getting under way at 1pm. Registration for both will be open from 10.30am in the Knightsbrook Hotel, Trim. Refreshments will be served afterwards for both distances in the hotel. There is a water stop on the Hill of Tara for participants on the 40k spin.

All cyclists must wear a hard shell helmet regardless of age. Participants under the age of 16 years must be accompanied by an adult.

This is your chance to cycle with one of the true legends in cycling history on your local turf – don`t miss it!! Date for your diary 7th October 2012 – register early for the 40k and avail of the €5 discount.

The weather is looking OK for this one too.

    12:00: 12 Deg C, overcast, Light breeze, 3 m/s from east-southeast, no rain.

My map shows the 40km route to be actually 43.3km.
Hills are 6.8% maximum with only 336m of climbing.

A well organised cycle to-day, good marshalling and plenty of food at the finish, Greg leMond is a true gent too, lots of time for a chat with people and autograph signing. Even the weather was fantastic...

Really enjoyed meeting a legend and a gentleman. Had a craic with him about both of us having lead inside us (I explained I'm in Tara Mines) and asked him does he still hunt. He smiled and said he does although he's very particular with who he goes with !!! - prefers clay shooting these days. I had rode up the Hill of Tara a couple of weeks ago and knew that it had been tarred and chipped so I took it fairly easy on the way down - and then Greg himself passed me like a bullet on the right hand side. I followed as fast as I could to see him descend but as soon as he swept the final bend on to the main road he put on the afterburners again and ... next time I saw him was in Trim at the hotel. He's just some class act - on and off the bike.

If anyone has links to pictures from the day can they please post details - thanks.

PS Forget to mention and thank Clonard Road Club for brilliant marshalling at every junction - very well organised - maybe Mr Kelly or Mr Roche Snr for next year ?

Greg is an amazing guy. I'll never forget watching the 1989 Tour as a kid. Looking back on it now I'm glad Greg won and beat Fignon!

You'd have to wonder if we would have an Irish winner if it wasn't for his shooting accident!!

just working on that actually - we should have lots of them. a 'slight technical hitch' :o with flickr i think is the problem (and dreadful broadband in rural parts!), but hopefully we'll get them up on the website asap.

will let yee know as soon as they are up on the website ;)

Bunked off school in September 1988 to get his autograph in Arnotts. Still have the PDM poster.

    An absolute gentleman.
