Why is split by gender?
because peach and daisy should be playing 3ds between meals in kitchen??

    ill get my coat ;)

serious note stupid isnt it? why would there be a gender divide????

I wonder would it be because guys that game are generally older than girls that might...

So kind of makes a more level playing field for younger females.

Not saying they're not as good gamers as older guys obviously but....maybe it's a reason along those lines..

The gender divide makes perfect sense. Mariokart requires the players to drive wrecklessly and without due care for their fellow drivers, two things women excel at. It's not fair putting men against them. Also, the male players might be distracted by the notion that this is the only way they'll ever be up against a human female without the use of a dvd of The Notebook and an industrial quantity of chloroform.

And now to alienate the hermaphrodites....

I mean what gender does Birdo belong to?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

Eggs come out of birdo's mouth.
That means that it's not a mouth, and Birdo is the single most offensive character in video game history.
Given "her" voice and the fact that "her" genitals are on her head, I would expect that if you were to look inside Birdo's underpants you would find the face of Harvey Fierstein

Aw man the girls will have much less competition. I might train my sister how not to suck at MK7 so I can win them games :pac:

Or you could enter yourself! :pac:

Only twelve entrants in the Irish male competition so far, so everyone will be in with a good chance!

Enter dressed as a lady... Thats genius! :P

Ah no, whats the closing date for registration? College has destroyed my will to read terms & conditions! :pac:

Well the competition starts tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure you can still register at any time during the competition. It lasts until the 28th, so you can probably register at any stage, but to get a decent score you'd have to enter early!

@Nitromaster or anyone else who's entered: Would you be interested in arranging a time each day/couple of days that we'd meet online for games?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,134 ✭✭✭gubbie

One question. Is there a particular way of registering? I went onto their facebook and found the code for my competition, but do I have to send my details anywhere?

EDIT: Scrap that. Found a link and registered! It'll be fun :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 334 ✭✭jaydoxx

Aw man how long does the competition last? I really have to be studying tbh.

Goodluck everyone who enters! I'll be channeling astral beasts to assist you guys :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,698 ✭✭✭✭Princess Peach

    Screw study, only Mario Kart!

So I just registered, but their facebook page seems to be broken for me. How will I know what time to play?

Here's a good example of someone getting their priorities right! :pac:

You just have to go online any time(s) between now and the 28th, and hope someone else is online so you can both get some points. It'll be difficult to find games in the smaller regions like Ireland...

    Good luck to everyone!

Would be great to see a Boardsie in the final!

Well it's official I suck donkey balls at Mario Kart 7, wonder will Nintendo give out a pity prize.

    How is everyone doing?:D

edit; is it not incredibly easy to go online with 2 3ds's at the same time and play overnight or something?

Still until next Friday to play, so plenty of time to rack up enough points to qualify for the finals.

@jaydoxx: I'm currently leading the Irish Male group, but the guy in second place is hot on my heels! Nitromaster is in third place right now, too, so hopefully at least one of us will qualify.

I guess it would be pretty easy to cheat, but we're all good folk! :pac:

    Bump!

Just back from this now! It was on today in Birmingham, and I had an excellent day.

I arrived at about 11.30, and had to wait around as we weren't allowed to enter. Once we got in they had a history of Mario games, all available to play on Virtual Console on 3DS XL. The female semi-finals were held first, and word started to trickle through that we'd all have to use Mario, standard kart, standard wheels and standard glider, as well as 50cc.

My semi final was definitely the easier of the two, and I won 3 out of 4 races, finishing with 38 points. Only one person was eliminated from each semi final, so I reached the final pretty comfortably.

After the female final, the male tournament was held. It was Mushroom Cup, 150cc, with the kart and characters as above. I front ran the first race until a little into lap 3, when I was blue shelled, but I still finished 4th. Next race I front ran again for the first lap, but I was blue shelled at the beginning of the second lap. I held second for the rest of the race and by the end of the race I was one point off the lead. Third race I got caught up in some hectic item play, but I managed to still get 2nd place. Going into the final race, I was leading with 21 points, second on 19 points, third on 18 points. I didn't race that well for the first two laps, but reached the middle of the pack by lap 3. Coming around the last corner I was in 4th place, while 1st, 2nd and 3rd had finished, so the blue shell hit me :( causing me to finish 7th!

Final scores were 2 guys on 24 points, and me and another guy on 23! I was pretty disappointed straight after but I think I'll be receiving a year's supply of first party games all the same, plus I got a shell cup and a goody bag. If I felt unlucky spare a thought for the guys in Britain's Fastest Family! One guy won three of the four races, but his dad finished 7th and 8th in most races, so as a team their score only got them second place! The winning family got a Honda car so naturally there was huge excitement in the venue.

I also got all the pink pieces I needed and finished three puzzles, and met Jennifer!! (that's Gubbie on here!) She made the final too, but I'll leave it to her to let you guys know how her matches went. It was really nice to meet you! The other Irish finalist was a girl from Donegal, and she and her mother, and the rest of the Irish gave great moral support from the audience during my races (I even heard one guy breaking into song, singing a few words of our anthem!)

Overall, it was a really enjoyable day, I'm just disappointed I couldn't bring home the silverware, but truth is, I didn't want to have to pay the extra baggage fee, so I never really intended to win!:P

Congrats on the performance. Tough luck on the blue shell so close to the finish but it was still a great performance.

Why the hell were the semis 50cc though? That must have seemed so slow.

I don't like to be too critical of the organisers, but they were completely clueless.I don't know how they chose who ran the competition but they really had no clue about anything really. :pac:

Ha, that was my brother before i shushed him! We were cheering on all the ROI and NI contestants.

I got a lot of pink pieces, but still need another 20! There were so many people around just constantly on their 3ds's swoping pieces.

I also was in the easier of the semi-finals. I won 3 out of 4 races and came 3rd i n the other one due to a last minute shell to the kart. They bring all the semi-final winners out for an interview to be on Nintendo TV! Make sure to look out for us both :-)

The final was average. I was in 3rd going into the final match and i just had the worst luck. Fell back to 7th and the person in 8th just had bullets and lightnings constantly so i couldn't make my way back up. Ended in 4th! No games for a year for me :-(

I had a nightmare of an evening-i asked the organisers to book my accommodation which was for Saturday night bit they booked it for the Friday night. so i found out at 6:30 that i was roomless for the night. Finally found somewhere an hour later for £160 :(

Wow, that was a pity. Glad you got sorted in the end though.

    Well done Rob and Jen!
Played Rob a few times in the online build up and he was so far ahead of me every time, it was embarrassing! Glad to have given you the points though and was delighted someone from here won it in the end.

Doesn't sound like it was too well organised but you've got the years supply of games so I doubt you'll care too much :D

Jen; that was a sickner..:( Hope it didn't turn you off the ole Nintendo too much.

It's rumoured that all the finalists will receive the year's supply of games, but no confirmation on that yet.

Fingers crossed! Biggest disappoint about coming 4th was being so close to those games!

But in good news i got onto the organisers and they said they'd pay me for the hotel :)

Wahoo they are sending me a Mario goodie bag and a trophy for coming 3rd place :D
