1.What is your budget? No more than 1000 euro, ideally around 800 euro if possible.

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? photo editing – Applications to be used are Photoshop, Lightroom, Outlook and MS office.

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? No, will be using my windows 7 64bit

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? Only keyboard and mouse.

    5. Do you need a monitor? no

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? Current one is Dell Ultrasharp U2312HM 23 inch IPS LED Monitor . 1920x1080 resolution. No plans to change/upgrade monitor

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? no

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? No. just want stable system.

    8. How can you pay? Laser, credit card, Paypal.

    9. When are you purchasing? In next 2 weeks.

My old system is 7 years old and its showing its age. It’s been a long time since I’ve build system and I haven’t kept up to update with news and what components works with what so I’m looking for some (lots!) assistance and recommendations.
When comes to photo editing I would be working with large files – 300Mb up to 800Mb per file. I would be leaning towards Intel system , 16Gb RAM and SSD drive. Maybe SSD drive big enough to install and run OS and all application but that’s it, all photo files will be stored externally. Oh, yes, another thing, my current “rig” sounds like a jetfighter taking off once you start doing any work.. less noisy system would be nice if it’s not too expensive.
One more thing, discreet or you can call it boring box please – none of them cases with flashy lights and all sorts of funky designs.

    Thanks in advance!

Will you be using it for anything that would require a powerful graphics card or would integrated be enough for you?

Not interested in games but card might be good for photoshop, this is what i've found on Adobe web site:

Tested video cards for Photoshop CS6

Adobe tested the following video cards before the release of Photoshop CS6. This document lists the video card by series. The minimum amount of RAM supported on video cards for Photoshop CS6 is 256 MB.

Note: Adobe tested laptop and desktop versions of the following cards. Be sure to download the latest driver for your specific model. (Laptop and desktop versions have slightly different names.)

    nVidia GeForce 8000, 9000, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 series

    nVidia Quadro 400, 600, 2000, 4000 (Mac & Win), CX, 5000, 6000

    AMD/ATI Radeon 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000 series

    AMD/ATI FirePro 3800, 4800, 5800, 7800, 8800, 9800, 3900, 4900, 5900, 7900

Intel Intel HD Graphics, Intel HD Graphics P3000, Intel HD Graphics P4000

Note: ATI X1000 series and nVidia 7000 series cards are no longer being tested and are not officially supported in Photoshop CS6. However, some basic GL functionality can be available for both these cards.
So to answer your question yes, card would be nice.

I always thought photoshop was entirely cpu dependent. I guess you could do with a graphics card then.. but nothing too expensive. I'll throw together a basket for you now.

    Item|Price
    Intel Core i7-3770 Box, LGA1155|€279.28
16GB-Kit Corsair Vengeance Low Profile schwarz PC3-12800U CL10-10-10-27|€87.13
    Samsung SSD 830 128GB SATA 6GB's Paper Box|€99.74
    Club 3D Radeon HD 7750 royalQueen, 1GB GDDR5|€103.17
    Cooler Master Silencio RC-450-KKN1 Midi-Tower - black, ohne Netzteil|€47.99
    Samsung SH-222BB schwarz|€16.50
    ASRock B75 Pro3, Sockel 1155, ATX|€69.02
    Corsair Builder Series CX430 V2, 430 Watt|€41.03
    Shipping|€18.99
    Total|€762.85

How much HDD space do you need? Or do you have external storage already?

You could get cheaper ram with 4x4gb, but I chose 2x8gb to give the option of upgrading to 32gb if you ever want to. The graphics card is passively cooled so completely silent. Case is also soundproofed.

hi guys, just one more question , i went to that German site and setup account and noticed it only payment option is somethign they call "Prepayment" . What is this and how safe is it?
    Strange no credit card option....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,577 ✭✭✭spix

There should be a paypal option as well.

Pre-payment is bank transfer, not very safe but.... that site is very popular here and most people pay with that option. I've done it a couple of times and no issues. It's much easier if you have online banking.

Just want to say thanks very much spix for your kind assistance and help, much appreciated!
Discounted links and the codes all worked and saved me some money.

I transferred the money last night from my bank account, now its sit and wait game.. :)

If you sent payment with aib online banking they should get it tomorrow morning and dispatch later that day. Not sure about other banks though!

when i looked yesterday i didnt see an option for credit card either, is selecting paypal the credit card option? as regards bank transfer how exactly is it not safe?

It's not safe because there's no way to dispute if a problem arises like there is with paypal for instance. But there's little chance you would have any problems as hardwareversand are are as legit as they come :)

They charge a 3 percent paypal fee on the entire order though so bank transfer works out cheaper.

I looked but there was no option for anything else but money transfer. Maybe because I’m new customer, just registered with them and there is no way for them to trust me until I make some purchases..

There is a way to dispute a transfer.. Any transaction you make In the bank can be reversed if needs they just won't do it that much as it causes the a lot of hassle to them, ..also bank transfer takes 3 days to process unless you pay for the option to have it processed in 1 day..if you transfer money for goods HWVS have the legal obligation to send you the goods therefore and non compliance will result in you being able to take legal action against them as they are in breach of the contract set out.

I've paid hardwareversand and other german stores with online bank transfer a good few times. If you do the transfer before 4pm on Monday for example they get it next morning. After 4pm then it will be Wednesday morning. I done them all standard not urgent so no fees.

Didn't know you could dispute a bank transfer... they definitely don't have to help though as its nothing to do with them. I imagine an international transfer would be even more hassle.
