Hi I have a Samsung tv, two years old and it has has saorview on it before I even heard of the thing. I just stuck a normal aerial in and have all saorview channels. I moved into an appartment that has a satellite dish on the balcony and used that instead of the aerial and have perfect saorview. I was wondering if I should be able to get UK free to view channels using this dish as there is a digital tuner on the tv. Auto store isn't picking anything up have I any other options?

You are not getting Saorview through the dish, you can only get Saorview through an aerial.

So the cable you connected to your tv is definitely coming from the dish? Did you have to change the connector on the end? You'll only be getting Saorview from a connection to a dish because you're in a strong signal area & the cable is acting as an aerial.

You will only get satellite channels if the tv has a satellite tuner (some Samsungs do). Otherwise you'll need a separate receiver.

Yeah you can see the cable coming from the dish from the balcony into the living room and it has the same connection on the end as the aerial I normally use. When tuning the options are air-digital or analogue and cable-digital or analogue. air-digital gets me 18 saorview channels with the radios stations etc. What should I choose or change for uk free to view? Surely the tv was not made purely to tune in saorview? Or would it only work the way I'm thinking if you were living in the uk using an aerial.

You mean the 'co ax plug' shown here? Connections to satellite receivers are made with f-connectors, pictured underneath.

UK terrestrial channels can only be tuned if you're within range of a UK transmitter, so depends where you live.

UK free channels are broadcast by satellite but you probably need a seperate satellite receiver for them.

In you are on a border county with northern Ireland or along the east coast you might get the channels with an aerial although it is unlikely in an apartment.

I am surprised you are getting Saorview channels by using a lead only connected to a dish. You must be very close to a Saorview transmitter.

    Where are you located?
