    Hi,

I am looking for advice on an entry level road bike. I want a good reliable bike for cycling. At the moment I have no plans of racing competitively.

I'd like some recommendations on the make and model of bikes I should be looking out for? I can't available of the cycle to work scheme (I bought a giant mountain bike under this scheme a couple of years ago).

I can purchase in the north east/dublin and would be interested in new or second hand bikes.

I don't really want to spend more than €400

    Thanks,

    BMD

It sounds to me like you are after the Decathalon B'Twin Triban 3

Generally if you buy second hand you'll get more for your money.

Or is there a chance you can avail of the bike to work scheme?

the B-Twin is about €375, much better bike than the carrera.

The Decathalon B'Twin Triban 3 sounds perfect unless someone wants to advise me otherwise

I'm 5' 10", what size would I need to go for?

    54,57,60?

I'd say 54 but that depends on the geometry.

not true. but you can only avail of the scheme once every 5 years, so you can do it again in 5 years time.

Now back on topic. OP. I noticed when buying my bike last year some sizing can be a bit different, just like a pair of jeans from Tommy Hilfingers in size 32 could be a perfect fit whilst in Levi you would need a 34! It is to do with the way they measure the bike frames afaik.

Your best bet if possible is to spin up to Belfast and pick one up there and then, whist at the same time, making sure you get the right fit. Alternatively, pop down your LBS and size up a few frames yourself to see what size suits you best.

    I got a 58" frame myself and I'm almost 6"1

Well I bought the Carerra Virtuoso recently for just over 400quid with the sales etc that halfords regularly have on.

For me as an entry bike so far so good. Have it about 4 weeks now and its serving me quite well I have to say.

Dont know about the decathlon bike but I can vouch quite strongly for the carerra. Plus I have a carerra mtb as well which has been strong for the past year. No problems.
