Hi, a friend of mine had some work done in her house and as soon as the workers left the Sky would not work in one of her rooms, she rang the workers and they said they did not go near it. She thinks something must be missing from it. A guy said she might need a transformer (sp?) She brought the box up to Maplin but they said they need to know what volt it is so they can sell her the right transformer. I know nothing about this kind of stuff so I thought I would but it up her. Any help would be great. Here is some pics of what the box is like.

    According to here:
    http://www.satshop.co.uk/section138/product12/Global-4-way-da.html

The box can be powered by a seperate 12V supply, however if the red light lights it is getting power directly from the Sky box and no power supply is needed.

    See here:
    http://www.globalinvacom.com/products/f140.php

    and here:
    http://www.dastechnology.co.uk/docs/0092_Global_F120_Sky_Amplifier.pdf

Just because you cannot find the power supply does not mean there ever was one. Normally they don't even come with one.

So I would recommend checking to see if the red power light is lighting. If not then check the cable nearest the "TV link logo" on the right hand side.

Also check at the back of the main sky box that is still working if there is something still pushed into the connector labelled "RF2" If not try to find a cable that should be connected there.

If the box never came with a power supply then buying one will not fix the problem. If totally stuck pay an installer who has used F140 distribution amplifiers with a Sky box before, or ideally get back the same guy who initially installed it.

I also noticed that in the photo you have NO cables connected. You cannot just connect the cables any way round. The cable to the right needs to come from the RF2 connector on the main Sky box.

The other cable(s) should go to the TV's in the other rooms, but there should be a remote eye just before each of the TV's.

Thanks so much for your help. I will pass this info onto my friend. I will let you know how she gets one.

Sky would not work in one of her rooms

That implies that it DOES work in the other rooms, so the amplified splitter is probably not the culprit. Check the integrity of the cable going to the "one of her rooms" and its connections. The "workers" probably put a nail through it.
