    Hi all,

I'm about to begin my final year of Civil & Environmental Engineering and I'm beginning to do some research on Masters programs that I can apply to during the year.

I'm particularly interested in environmental engineering and also business management. I have already spent a year studying abroad so I most likely will go abroad again for my masters.

So, can anyone recommend any courses that they have either done or heard are good?

    Thanks in advance!

Hey! I did an Masters of Engineering (MEng) in Civil Engineering Design and Management at the University of Dundee, Scotland. There is environmental involved but mainly focuses on Design and Management as the title of the course suggests.

Advantage of Scotland is the free fees through SAAS. Course is second best to Imperial College London in the UK - could now be different!! Plenty of Irish there if that's what you would be looking for.

Master of Science (MSc) courses offer a very specific level of education in a particular field. Most universities specialise in many forms of Civil, Environmental and Business courses, Dundee included.

Thanks for the reply. I have been looking into Imperial College London already but I never considered the University of Dundee, Scotland. I will definitely look into it, especially if it is one of the best courses in the UK. Out of curiosity, was there many job prospects after finishing a masters there?

Imperial College would be fantastic but expect to pay very high fees (potentially £9000 approx). I can't confirm that so you will have to research that aspect but I do know that Scotland is free! Cost of living would also be significantly lower than London.

With regards job prospects - I got a job straight away! Most of my classmates, including the Irish lads decided the Oil and Gas industry was for them in Aberdeen and London and all walked into jobs with Technip, Subsea 7 and JP Kenny etc. Others also went into design work with Atkins, Arup, Mott McDonald, Amec, Aecom etc in various locations around the UK.

All would be graduate positions with salaries ranging from approx £22000 - £33000. Oil and Gas salaries are significantly higher than Design salaries.

I knew I'd gave to pay fees for a postgrad but I didn't know Scotland was free. That makes it very appealing.

Sounds like there is really good job prospects too. Thanks for recommending Dundee. I hadn't even consider it before but I definitely am now.

Scotland's not free for a postgrad, just undergrad.

No, you can still get your fees paid by SAAS. All the Irish MSc postgrads did last year and the year before.
