i've owned an '98 evo 5 for just over 5 years, drove it every day up until last march but let the insurance run out due to lack off funds, bought a van to keep me going in the mean time but didnt use me no claims bonus to insure the van as it was on the car at the time,i'm 32,12 years ncb,no penalty points, does anyone know of a insurance company out there that could offer me a limited mileage policy for a resonable amount of money,i've looked at classic car policys but the car does'nt qualify as its not old enough,my renewal was €900 but i cant justify payin that as i'd only be takin it out on a sunday for a spin

In fairness, an EVO will probably eat as many miles on a Sunday spin as my yoke does in a week!

    ;-)

If you wait until next year then Campion Insurances will most likely insure it as a classic being 15 years old (Once you join the IVETA). It'll only be third party insurance but still means you're road legal. Should cost about €300, possibly less provided you have the van as your daily driver. Looked into doing something similar with a dc2 a while back. Heres the info you need .http://www.iveta.ie/forms/IVETAInsuranceRates.pdf

Head over to Irishmoc.org and see what ways there are around it. A limited milage policy or weekend only . Try a broker explain what you needs are..

Or I'll swap you my 96 IV for your 98! My 96 would qualify for classic :D

I thought a car must be atleast 20 years old to qualify for classic? If my 97 fto qualifies for classic insurance, i'll be dancing on the ceiling!

I have a 97 fto and they're very hard to insure. The OH has a Zafira and collects the kids after work usually. We have 3 kids and another due in December, so the fto is not the best for when I can collect them early.

I was thinking about getting another car, but I won't sell my fto and so decided another car was not realistic, as insuring another car, unless it was a genuine classic, was unrealistic. This thread has sparked my imagination again.

What is the likelihood of me getting another car, insuring it as my main, daily driver and then insuring the fto as a classic?

your alright lad,i'll stick with me 5!!!,i could'nt be bothered with all the "crank walk" issues associated with the IV :D, i've try'd a few brokers already and explained my case and that i'd only be covering tiny miles but none of them seemed able to help, all they could offer was a normal policy,i try'd joining the imoc a while back but they emailed me back saying i could'nt!!!!!,no reason at all ,just that i could'nt!!!

Well not saying you personally, but if people were not so hard on the engine rallying the crap out of them they wouldn't have any issues.

Have mine one year and no major engine issues, only issue is a crank shaft pully too be replaced !

I requested a join a few hours ago with imoc and they were fairly quick in opening the doors and welcoming me. Seem like a good crowd.

in my experience its all in the servicing,if ya dont look after these cars and service them on time its asking for trouble,ye those pulleys can give trouble, theres a rubber ring in them that can perish, camskill in england is a great place to buy parts, hard to beat on price too
