Anyone else here attending these? I have my first one tomorrow 'working as a professional' and not looking forward to it. Full day of school then 2 hours of this! I'm pretty sure it will just be a rehash of the stuff churned out at college!

Some of the course content is actually pretty excellent, go into it with an open mind working as a professional is probably to the most exciting topics but some further down the line are really useful!

I applied for these and never heard back... ?

Yeah I'm in a 5 o'clock tomorrow, primary level. Tbh I think I'd go anyway even if they weren't compulsory (usual "something for the CV" excuse :)) A few people that did it last year told me they found it a waste of time, but others were very positive. I guess we'll just have to wait and see! Can't do any harm anyways.

For a NQT it is mandatory, there registration is on condition by doing these 12 workshops. I'm hoping to get them done this year out of the way. It will eventually turn into doing portfolios and projects etc. after you finish in teacher training.

PS Have signed up for the classes too, and I think they are mandatory if you want to get dipped.......

'Talks' no doubt delivered by 'under succeeding ' ex teachers ...!Those who can do.Those who cant teach .Those who cant teach, teach teachers! In fairness the guy in jeans has restored my faith in teaching practice professionals ,so many of them seem to be bitter (sorry but its true!)females determined to grind their 'axe' on poor 'Dip' students ...

Yeah I can't really say I learned a whole lot this evening. . . Tonight seemed like a bit of an introductory thing though, so like you said wolfyboy, hopefully it'll improve. Didn't really need someone to tell me not to add parents on facebook. Got a shiny new folder though :) silver lining n all that. . .

As well as reducing these workshops to ten required, they've now introduced a Saturday option for those working abroad(evidence required). To top it off they have changed the titles of some of the workshops . It's all a bit much for my tired head. I need to to do a couple more, isn't evidence based behaviour support the same as behaviour management and assessment and feedback to all learners the same as differentiation. Out of those that attended the workshops from Sep last year, which would you recommend ?

Got my confirmation from the Teaching Council this morning that I have completed this programme.
Bits of it is worthwhile but it is great to have it out of the way. Just put the head down and get through them.

I've only two to do . Trying to figure which would be worth doing . Keeping in mind the chance of workshop titles . Don't want to repeat anything !:)

Same here Got it in the post today. It is matter of getting through them. It could be alot if we had to do essays/portfolios etc. Now I just have to get the rest of the 300 hrs done. :-)

Which ones did you enjoy from the first term please?

Which ones did you enjoy from the first term please?

    I found these ones useful

Planning and Preparation- mainly we got templates to help planning.

Working with parents- more interactive and how to deal with different scenarios

child protection- I think every teacher should be up to date with this.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,438 ✭✭✭Crazyteacher

Definitely will do the first two so. I haven't had much interaction with parents yet so I'll be glad to that one. And it'll be great to what's expected in terms of planning. Child protection has been moved in to Spring 2013 but thankfully I did a child protection course with the HSE. But then it's always good to update it anyway:) thanks electoralshock.

Do you think evidence based behaviour support is the same module as behaviour management?

It could be, unless, it is about behaviour supports that's available to you the teacher such as year heads etc and getting the parents to cooperate with you to deal with a misbehaving student.

I'll give them an email so , very quick to change the titles ! Don't want to attend something on the double and not for it to be counted.

I'm giving the primary ones of these next year. I'm new to it but as far as I can remember the evidence based on is for second level.
