If you were on a fixed budget and wanted a carbon bike for general riding and sportives would you go for an "aero" style bike (not TT just profiled frame tubes) or a regular lighter weight frame with better group set & kit?

Aero frames tend to be hideous IMHO.

B, lighter and better spec and cheaper, it's a no brainer.

An Aero frame isn't going to help you much when you are just using it for 10km spins and 120km sportives and not setting insane average speeds. the lighter bike will help you more climbing and the hich spec is, well, obvious.

Aero frames tend to have much harsher rides. Why you would want that in a sportive bike is beyond me. Have cheesecake supplies really got so desperate that you need to sacrifice comfort in order to get to the food stop first?
