Sowing Fertilizer - Need some advice

Im new to farming and had some cattle this year which i purchased in the springtime and I sold all the cattle last week and now have about 10 acres of grazing land there at present doing nothing, its good dry ground so i was thinking of sowing fertilizer next week and maybe taking a cut of round bales of silage off it.
Some say it too late in the year and so would be a waste of time and fertilizer to do so while others said it would be ok and go for it.

So would like to know what others on here think

You wont grow grass without fertilizer. However as growth will be slowing all the time I would be gauging 1 unit/day on old pasture and 1.2/day on recently reseeded ground. This is my own opinion I stand to be given out to.

It will all depend on how much fertlizer you put on it and how long you are willing to wait. A lot will depend on your land type as well is it free draining. It is quite possible that you will not be able to cut is The soonest will be late october at this stage It may well be a case that it will be next march/april. Saw a few fellas cutting bales on land this spring that had not being grazed since September 2011. It may be a case that you might be better off spreading fertlizer on the whole farm @20 units/acre and hoping to stay grazing until december. It will all depend on your cattle.

Cattle now gone and wont be getting more in til springtime.
The land is good dry land and Was hoping to sow fertilizer this week and maybe cut in 5 -6 weeks time but maybe too late to cut in late october.
