I don't see what Charr has done to deserve a world title fight, I don't see any upset this evening.

Just shows how low profile a heavyweight world title fight has become, was looking at "The Ring" website earlier and there wasnt a mention of it, is this Vlad's last fight?

I think I'd rather watch Boxnation over Sky right now thanks to Svetlana

The Purdy fight is a good one now.

2 very limited boxers with poor defenses makes for good viewing :)

Carasco ran out of gas quickly enough, but it was entertaining while it lasted.

Bellew Miranda might be better entertainment here, Charr is a joke but has shown good heart.

Convincing win after 4 rounds . Fight was stopped due to a cut. Maybe the fight should have gone on a bit longer but result was not a question

I think it is because Vitali has already beaten every top contender , plus any up and coming contenders are unwilling to fight him?

I think it is because an Ukranian vs a German in a heavy weight boxing match is not marketable in the two biggest markets, UK or the US. I'm sure it was a big fight in its's targeted market in Europe. If Vitali was American , he would have been alot bigger than Mike Tyson. You can be the overwhelming best in a popular sport and no one is interested unless you were born in a certain demographic.

Not in a million years. In America the light dimmed for boxing, and even more so for the heavyweight division, by the time either of the Klitchskos were relevant entities. Both are also great politicians, which makes for generally very boring promos and interviews if left to their own devices. The biggest stars in the US are characters.

Disagree strongly. Their skin colour alone would have seen TV companies, sponsors, media etc. absolutely fawning over them. Plus the fact that they're both intelligent, articulate and good-looking the powers that be in the US would adore the respectful image thay create. They would be megastars.

Manny Pacquaio is a huge star in the US and worldwide and he's not a spa, unlike his US equivalent (guess who?), so the euphamisitc "character" trait is not a necessity.

Pacman's got up to plenty of surreal activities and about-faces in his career. You could make a list of just the things he's done this year and it'd read like TMZ article. He may not have great English but he has blindingly obvious charisma, which is as much of a reason why he's been so successful as his in-ring skills. He's so adored in his own country he can get away with his eccentricities and maintain political ambitions.

I think alot of dedicated boxing fans here have gone way too far on the opposite side of the popular perception of the Klitchkos - that they're boring but talented - and lost sight of the fact they're not being marginalised for just their nationality or anything that superficial.

The truth is they have the ability to be great in the ring, but boxing, more than any other sport in the US, is about having an x-factor. Because the brothers have never had the great rivals they can't mask their charisma deficit like other technically skilled boxers have. Hell, even Mike Tyson wouldn't be as big as Mike Tyson if his star had risen at the same time as the brothers.

You're looking for ticket and PPV sales and viewing numbers at the end of it all and being respectful equates to nothing more than being boring in this game. This sport is about the cult of character when it comes to superstars.

Really? Find that impossible to believe. No doubt The Klits would be much bigger if they were American. I agree with that statmenet 100 percent.

However, in Tyson you're talking about the 2nd most well known boxer of all time only behind Ali. Love him or hate him everyone knows him. His style and ferocity in the ring mixed with the contraversy an unpredicatability outside it put him in a league of his own. Vitali cant match that in our out of the ring.

I'm not a big Iron Mike fan but to say someone like Vitali would be alot bigger than him had he been born somewhere else is ludicrous.

One thing blindingly obvious is that you've never lived in good ol' Uncle Sam.

If you had you'd realise how prevalent racism is there.

Osama or not - IT'S EVERYWHERE!!!

They love their sports stars of all colours but an English-speaking, intelligent, good-looking American WHITE heavyweight champion of the world would be a megastar.

If you don't believe me ask Larry Holmes.

I have, and in the South, no less. The vast majority of the people I met were genuinely open and good people. America is far more open than many stultifying bashers and race warriors want to make out, and less than triumphalist flag wavers want you to believe. It's a kaleidoscope in the best and worst senses of the word.

Just ask the multitude of black superstar boxers and athletes if they ended up too badly on that front. There isn't a glass ceiling when it comes to race and boxing in the US. Of course there's racism but the problem with the brothers and America runs far deeper than nationality. They are politicians outside the ring and America is about showtime, no matter if you're white, black or soviet red.

Too many people want to make out they've been unduly passed over in the US but I'm fully of the belief it was entirely warranted in the context of the country, the division and their style, in and out of the ring.

Well apologies for saying you never lived there, but having lived there for a year myself in the supposed more open North (New York), like you I found people decent and polite, but they were also quite open about their racism. I was quite young at the time and was quite shocked when I realised how prevalent it was.

Anyway, as I already said they love their sportstars irrespective of colour, however that doesn't get away from the fact that if the heavyweight champ of the world was an intelligent, good-looking WHITE American, he would absolutely clean up. You're fooling yourself if you think differently.

As I also referred to - if you want a good look at the underlying racism that's in America read all about the buildup to the Gerry Cooney / Larry Holmes fight. Yes, it's 30 odd years ago, but I have been in America a number of times over the years (last time was less than a year ago) and always get the impression that things haven't changed a whole lot.
