Ksyrium SL front wheel creak

    Hey folks

Bought a pair of Ksyrium SL wheels back in march... At this stage they might have approx 4000km on them.

In the past month or two, the front wheel has developed an awful creaking noise when out of the saddle, generally while climbing. Iv brought it back to the shop with no real satisfaction, claiming they were fine.
    Iv also changed skewers.

Has anyone else had a similar problem? And if so...how the he'll do I fix it? It's getting annoying now....

Try tightening the bearings up, though given the length of time you've experienced the problem and the mileage on the wheels I wouldn't be surprised if new bearings were in order. They're easy to tap out but you'll need a bearing press to seat the new ones.

As an aside, that kind of noise can also be tracked back to (amongst a multitude of other things) loose or worn headsets which I would give a look at also and replace or clean up as necessary.

If it only happens when you are out of the saddle I'd wonder whether the creaking is originating from where the wheel bears against the dropouts of the fork. This probably only arises with steel dropouts. Apply a small amount of light oil to the droputs and re-fit the wheel. This sorted out that very same issue (with relatively new wheels) for me on one of my bikes, I used GT85 as the lubricant.

I would say you are right , I had the same problem with 3 month old sl's
put a little bit of copper grease around where the skewer make contact with the forks, this cured the issue for me aswell

It's a bit of a pain in the ass having to regrease though weekly or how ever often you must do it to keep it quiet is it?

Thanks for the suggestions anyway, at least I'm not alone!!

My new Ksyrium Elite front wheel started squealing last month, on inspection the axle was cracked at the end, i can only assume it suffered an impact without the skewer in place.

If you are talking about greasing/oiling the dropouts, I did mine a few weeks ago for the first time and haven't had to re-do it since then. And I've used the bike once or twice a week since then. The thin layer of lubricate that stays between the skewer/axle locknuts and the dropouts should not get washed out easily so it should last quite a while, though if you remove your front wheel frequently then it'll probably need to be re-done more often.

Even if I had to re-do it every other ride I'd live with that as it takes no more than a minute and has completely solved an annoying problem.

I agree i lubricated the drop outs and skewers about 6 months ago,
and no creaks since. and have done substantial miles on them
