I started exercising with dumbells last Monday for the first time in ages and ended up doing too much and getting a bad case of DOMS in my arms. I couldn't straighten both arms and there was some pain especially my left arm. I reckon I will be ok on Monday and would like to know what workout I should do. I was lifting 5kg on each dumbell and did 8 sets (10 reps) for 3 different techniques.

Usually 3 sets should be plenty sufficient starting out or even for experienced user. That amount of set,s is to much and the weights are to light. Usually aim to fatigue half way through the third set. Thats what i aim for.

Will I do 3 sets of 10 with 8 kg on each dumbell?

Its a case of finding a weight that you can manage. No harm in trying the 8kgs and see how you feel. Complete your routine and gauge how you feel afterwards. Reps 8 to 12 is the norm. Sets of 3 should be plenty. Don,t increase the weights after the first exercise, run through the routine and then see at the end. 8kgs could be enough or you might need a little lighter or heavier. Patience is required no point in getting hurt before you start.

I was the same the first time I started using free weights. My arms felt like jelly for 2 days.
