Buying first bike

for many years so don't want to spend much.Looking at hybrids as roads around here are not great and off trail is appealing but would be riding roads too. Have noticed the cheaper models are all handlebar twist grip and wondered are these as good as the other type. Any suggestions for an inexpensive intro model.
