Chain

Hi all. Relative newbie to cycling and today my chain fell off, no big problem I thought as I went to pop it back on, to my horror I couldn't do it! there were 2 loops (?) in the chain that I couldn't shift, luckily I was only a 20 minute walk away from Halfords who sorted it by opening a link on the chain, straightening it out and putting it back on.
My confidence is dented, what if I'm 30 miles from nowhere and it happens again? Would this be a common occurrence or was I just unlucky?

could happen to anyone but probably happened because your derailleur is not adjusted properly. lookup some "how to" sites for how to adjust it. Also, get a mini tool with a chain breaker. That should let you be 90% self sufficient. For the other 10 % bring a mobile and some cash.

I have sen this before. its just a matter of passing the 2 loops over each other and it untangles. you shouldnt need to use a chain breaker but bring one anyway..

The other night on Howth I broke a chain had no CB so I had to get the queen out to collect me........
