Will be renewing car insurance soon.

Got a quote from my current insurer (RSA) for €370 protected.

Did a little searching as usual and so far have (all protected):
    123.ie - €395
    Liberty - €362
    Chill.ie - €420
    OneDirect - €525

Still to try FBD, Axa, AA and others.

Anyone want to recommend any others who might be competitive?

It is not worth moving for the sake of €8.

I doubt you will beat Liberty.

Is it Aviva or axa that are giving 6 weeks free ins and a 10% discount for buying online?

To be fair, my premium has gone down from last year, which I think is fairly rare these days, so gotta be happy enough.

Was just wondering who people have found to be the cheapest? If its Liberty, then thats fair enough, I could probably stop searching now and just renew with my current provider, as I usually hate this time of year spending hours on the net and ages on the phone trying to save a few quid.

    Update:

It was Aviva offering free insurance and 10% discount for buying online.

So off I went, and my quote?
    €490 protected!
Can't imagine what it would be without the 6 free weeks and 10% discount.

I would just see who gives the overall best cover and go with that within reason (€50 or so)

Swings and roundabouts in most cases, add a little here and take off a little there.

Ring the insurance companies and brokers, don't just accept what online quotes give you. You can't haggle with a webpage.

I personally find 123.ie to be the cheapest (330 euro for a 1.8 mondeo) that includes a 12% discount as well cause i had house insurance with them. It also helps that the brother works there to :D

OP, going by the title of the thread, this would be confidential information for retail clients only! Who knows what providers of said insurance are reading this thread.

I have my own ways of deciding who or what policy is competitive and what methods I use to get my quote down further.

Need I say anymore, get a quote, get another, think about the quotes and haggle.

    Confidential? Nonsense.

I'm trying to find out who people recommend as the cheapest for car insurance.
Thats what forums like this provide, info sharing.

Axa gave me my renewal last month at 670 (mis thirties, 1.8 '98 Avensis, full licence)

Switched to 123 and saved 300+ for same cover. (about the value of the fricken car!)

Thing is, quotes from insurance companies are unique to the individual's circumstances as much as the car you are insuring. I could have the same car as you and go to 10 insurance companies for a quote, each qoute I get may not be the same as if you went to the same 10 insurance companies. Age, driving experience, where you live are all factors taken into account when calculating a premium. There is no one size fits all when it comes to insurance.

I switched to Creane & Creane (bestquote.ie) a couple of years ago after Glennons stopped being competitive enough. They've good prices, and they're really nice to deal with too. Not sure how common it is, but my policy includes fully comp cover on other people's cars, not just 3rd party cover.

But obviously you should just take an hour out and ring everyone in the book.

To answer your question, there is no such thing as 'the cheapest' insurer. There are too many variables when getting a quote. It depends whatever bracket you fit into. Invariably its worth your while ringing a broker, who can use your specific details to shop the market for you.
