Thought there would have been a new thread on this already, given the announcement last night.

Seems we have a new player in the low cost tablet market.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/

The 7"s seem to be only available over here with the 8.9" coming to the US in October.

Given how easy enough (parcel Motel) it will be to get them to deliver them here. Whos getting one ?

I reckon there should be a big enough community for hacking these given the price and the soon to be availability. Something Google seem to lack given the rareity atm of the Nexus 7.

TBH the specs are fine but not as good as the Nexus 7's. url]http://reviews.cnet.com/kindle-fire-hd/[/url. Why would you get it and then attempted to hack it, when you have the option of getting the Nexus 7?

It'll most likely be easier to get and I'm put off by the build quality of the Nexus.
I think with a few custom roms it will be even better.

I've had an original kindle fire from the US since they launched at the end of last November and it's great, even better now that the CM10 Jellybean ROM is fully functional! :D

from what i can see the new ones are a little better than the original, but i wouldn't be buying one until i knew that there was a fully functioning vanilla Android ROM out for them as the Amazon ROM is a pig.

not that it's slow, it's just fugly! :D

it's easy enough to sideload apps without rooting it, but you really need a proper ROM to get the most from it imho.

I really like the look of them but wonder would they be deliverable here. Like to normal addresses. Also would you be able to use all the content. By that I mean if you try to use Amazon's MP3 store from Ireland at the moment it won't let you. If you try to use LoveFilm from here it won't let you. If I was to fork out for one of these I would expect I could use all the advertised functionalities with it

I saw this yesterday. It looks quite laggy. If i was buying a tablet now I'd probaby go with the nexus 7after seeing this.

Also the fact that ads will supposedly be popping up on your lock screen is a huge turn off

The verge are saying that you can remove the ads by paying an additional charge ($15 in the US).

    Explain?

Also why won't they import to Ireland?

Although if they won't import then you probably won't get the LoveFilm or be able to download the mp3s

Also to add, where can one get a Nexus 7

Dont understand about hacking. If I get a Kindle Fire HD, is there a load of messing to do in order to get it to function?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 nursejane

No messing at all. Just google sideload ing kindle fire and there's plenty of YouTube apps to show you how to do it. It's just like visiting a website and clicking one button! Honestly, even the non techy user. An do it easily.. Shame the kindle isn't readily available in Ireland though..

Hi, the Kindle App store is now working in Ireland, at least it is for free apps ie Netflix / Facebook / Angrybirds. Haven't tried to buy anything yet.
