Got a call from Sky yesterday, trying to persuade me to sign up again.
Offered 4 months at half price with new Sky+HD box ..... or 4 months at half price plus €75 credit to my account, which can be used to pay the monthly sub.

During the conversation I was told I would lose the Irish channels on 24th Oct.
I said no .... I already had them from Saorview.

Continued to tell me I would lose them, and started on about needing a 'digital aerial' blah, blah ...

After some insistence from me, they finally accepted that I was already receiving Saorview channels and there is no such thing as a 'digital aerial' ...... until the next call of course.

So the BS still goes on ....... and people continue to be led astray .......

Sky are correct you need a digital aerial and this must be washed twice a month with a bucket of steam.;)

They failed to mention the maintenance of the new digital aerial ..... should I ring back and complain?

They've rang me about half a dozen times since I cancelled in January trying to get me to sign back up.

Each time I tell them the same..

    - The service itself is top notch, but €100 a month to get the best out of it is ridiculous money for TV.. especially in the middle of a recession

    - The movie channels were worth it in the 90s when there was only 3 of them, but why would I pay a premium to see mostly movies I watched back then, or could rent/buy for next to nothing now - nevermind Netflix's €7 for everything they offer

    - Having to pay €15 extra to watch channels you already pay for in HD is exceptionally poor value. Worse again they used to want you to pay twice for this if you had multiroom (I think they dropped that though?)

    - Premium rate phone numbers and long hold times when you do have to call them is not on

    - Although the UPC TV package is vastly inferior, the boxes/EPG ****e, the 35MB broadband and TV for €60 will beat them every time (of course seeing as they get royalties/licensing fees for their TV they're still winning anyway).
Reselling BT's BB offering won't change that either - especially as there'll no doubt be more charges for these extra services too

    - The fact that they're all over me now that I've left but when I was a full-price/package customer from 1996 (1992 if you count the Cablelink days) to 2012, had paid for my own boxes on several occasions, paid moving home charges a few times, and even after dropping the premium channels still gave them over €40 a month, the most I got offered was a few half price options on channels I'd already dropped

Generally by that point they concede defeat and even admit that there's no way they can match that :p

I keep telling them to stop calling me too and remove me from their marketing lists but that hasn't happened yet either.

Complain to the phone regulator. They cannot keep calling you if you tell them to stop.
