Public Information Sessions on The Gathering Ireland Initiative 2013

The Irish Government has recently launched a national tourism initiative called ‘The Gathering’ for 2013. They are hoping to attract significant numbers of Irish Diaspora to Ireland during 2013. The Gathering’ is a simple but potentially very powerful initiative, where the Government is asking everyone in Ireland to reach out for one special year (2013) to family, relatives, alumni, affiliates, networks etc. and invite them to Ireland as part of an organised Gathering for a special year of celebration. Community groups and individuals throughout the country are being asked to organise festivals/ events next year and invite friends and relatives from overseas home to participate in these. This is very much a citizen led initiative. To find out more about how you or your organisation can be part of the Waterford Gathering 2013 a series of public information sessions will take place throughout the county. A panel of people will be available at these to answer any queries or discuss ideas/suggestions that you or your organisation may have on this initiative. Dates for public information sessions:

    Tramore - Tramore Public Library Wednesday September 12th 4.30pm – 7.00pm
Waterford- Central Library, Lady Lane Wednesday September 19th 4.30pm-7.00pm
    Dungarvan - Dungarvan Public Library Thursday September 20th 4.30pm – 7.00pm

Here in Waterford we hope to play a very active role in helping deliver the ‘Waterford Gathering 2013’. Waterford County Council and Waterford City Council and have been asked to assist in co-coordinating Waterford’s Gathering Initiative. They have agreed a joint strategic approach which will include a joint promotional campaign. Information on how they intend promoting ‘Waterford Gathering Events 2013’ will also be available at this meeting.

More information on ‘The Gathering 2013 ‘ can be found on www.thegatheringireland.com . Further information on these public information sessions or on the Waterford Gathering can be obtained from Vinnie O’Shea, Waterford City Council on 051-849990 or by email voshea@waterfordcity.ie or Mary Houlihan, Waterford County Tourism Officer on 058-21164 or by email mhoulihan@waterfordcoco.ie or on www.waterfordgathering.com

2.5 hours is a long session! I'll try to get along to the one in the city on September 19th. Think it's a really good idea.

It's a great idea. The feedback from the american tourists especially those of Irish descent that were in Dublin for the football last week was very positive especially from those who said they'll be back next year and bring a lot more family and friends.

Hi there - sorry if we weren't clear - it's just an information evening. We're hoping people will drop in at some point over the 2.5 hours for an informal chat!
    Hope to see you there.
