If someone gets a rough list of dates, can they stick them up? I'd like to do the seaosn this year, but need to work around some on call weekends for work.

"Mr Supercross" is away on holidays at the moment but I would guess that the Dublin dates will every 2nd week after the 29th September!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51 ✭✭Rutrider

Races down South starting the Saturday 29th September at Grange Castle Clondalkin, with a race every 2nd week (working between Saturdays and Sundays depending on availability of venue and help). Second Race will be in Swords two weeks later on the Sunday.

Race up North every other weekend (Sundays).

im hoping to add to my haul of getting my ass handed to me on the roads, by doing some of these races this year. Just need to find a bike......

Apart from having a licence are there any other requirements? Is it just turn up, pay your entry and make a show of yourself race?

    1. One that ends up in bed with a hairy, bearded scottish prop forward who can only go on top due to neck injuries sustained on the pitch (if you are a woman).

    2. One that ends up in bed with a hairy, bearded scottish prop forward who can only go on top due to neck injuries sustained on the pitch (if you are a man).

    3. One with Katie Price and Kerry Katona.

They are fairly rough I think? Anyone else know of any more?

judging from the last couple of comments a date with lusk doyle would be roughest of all.

Would it be bananas to do this on a single speed/fixed gear?

Fixed gear cyclocross would be very entertaining to watch.

I can imagine! It's just that i have a whole load of components for a single speed build, just need a frame that can take big tyres.

Payment by PayPal this year at registration folks.

There is no training in Firhouse this year due to complaints made to SDCC and CI by local residents.

The Fixx Supercross cup Face book page is worth a look fo rany details.

so first race out of the way. I got to the track about 10, signed on, got my bike and did a few laps. unfortunately the guys were still laying out the track so I really had no idea where I was going. Got talking to a lad from MAD so picked his brains and followed him round for a few warm up laps. The few laps in advance were a great idea, I got to see the various obstacles, the run up, the barriers and the grass and tarmac sections. The start was a mass sprint with the wind to the first corner, which was gravel. I was kind of mid pack, made it through ok, but on the next corner, on grass, the guy in front of me somehow lost a shoe, and there was a bit of a bottleneck. Somehow i managed to get through OK, and was hanging on the back of the first group. I stayed there for the rest of the lap, but lost a bit of time on that group on the second lap. There were a couple of us racing together at this stage with a group slightly up the road. On the third lap I crashed :) I was trying to get on to the back of a group that were maybe 10 seconds ahead of us, and going up one of the grassy hills, I lost the rear end of the bike. back wheel came round, i went down. Cr@p. Hopped back up on the bike, and was back behind the guys who i had been racing with in the last lap. We ended up staying together for the next lap and a half or so, then one lad pushed on away, and another lad got dropped. All the while, the leaders had been gaining on us, and inevitably, I was lapped. This was about half way through the lap, so I ended up doing 5 laps in just over 40 minutes. I think at a guess I finished somewhere in the middle of the pack. All in all it was great craic, and ill definately be back for more.

After the race I bumped into kingofifa. nice to meet another boardsie. :)

Brilliant Brilliant brilliant. Great craic and great hard racing. So well organised and loads of sambos and (Fixx) coffee afterwards and the free bike wash was a lovely touch.
Swords is a bit hillier but the racing will be the same, gutted I can't make it.

Sean from Bray was flying, great 3rd place too - so all credit to backing yourself and going out hard. I'm more of a cautious steady start kinda guy and so started last but had fun passing a few and trying the corners slightly different ways on different laps.

It's gas to be actually in two races, one against the lads around you and one against getting lapped - just shows how much faster Robin and the other lads are..

Seymour is a boss. Was talking to a lad who got a few photos of boss clean lifting the boards. awesome stuff.

to see people cycle up the place beside the power transformer was something else.
I hoped to have footage for ye of me getting lapped but firmware update fail and therefore lack of battery charge means there is none.

Pro tip - dont use toe clips and learn to dismount and remount!

Bloody hard work but a great days racing! Really well run event, nice course and a lovely day. Finished 21st in the Bs (out of 60ish starters) which is a lot better than I managed last year, so happy with that!

So is it too late to get any formal CX training in at this stage? Would like to have a go at racing but would prefer to have some idea of what I'm doing first.

So embarrassing oneself is just part & parcel?

What's the story with recceing a race course? I know it was discouraged prior to the nationals last year.

Everyone is too wrecked to be looking at anyone else. You get to practice on a course for a half hour before the race. Outside of that, find some waste land somewhere and practice some drills.

We really don't like to hear about people pre riding the race venues

Cycling is not usually allowed in public parks, and we have special permission to use them on the day of the races.

In any case, pre riding is of limited value, as we only decide on the actual course route on the morning of the race. Pleanty of time to practice on the morning of the race.

    Thanks for not pre riding>>

As RAAM says, get out on the bike, find some ground.....

    Practice

Standing starts - clipping in & sprinting
Dismounts - clipping out & running
    Remounts
    Lifting the bike
    Shouldering the bike
    Run ups
    Jumping over obstacles

Remember - keep your chin up, eyes looking far ahead at all times, try and keep the bike and body moving forward in a straight line.

And don't afraid to fall off.

I'm currently in negotiations with Fingal Co Co for a possible event in Portmarnock at the end of the Supercross series. It would be a big no-no for riding a course outside of an actual event. Currently I'm trying to figure out how to get a 2km lap into a pretty tight space.

I did my first cx race at clondalkin last weekend. I had been out on the cx bike twice, turn up and ride, it is as simple as that. Nice bunch of people, I was asking people questions and they were.answering. Relaxed enough atmosphere and great fun. Im signed up for the next one next week. Should be fun.

Was at the Swords CX race last year, one big run up so practice your bike carrying!
Unless you have a MTB cassette on the back or a very strong pair of legs! :)

A lot less flat than Grange Castle, and not quite as fast..

    Video from last year:

ha! Yes, turned into a "crawl-up" after a few laps...

Seymour had a go a few times, but even he carried after a while, great cheers from the crowd for anyone who tried it though! :D

He made it all the way up on the last lap.

Thing is, to try and ride it you had to bunny hope the boards at the bottom to have any momentum going into the hill. Feck that!

i had no idea how to remount last weekend and had to go with the left foot on the pedal first approach. just hung at the back of the field for the first lap to ensure any of my mistakes just impacted me and nobody else but got the jist after a while

You can save a lot of time by practicing, as per this vid:
