Lloyd Irvin discusses his belief on the brazilian jiu jitsu self defense vs sport jiu jitsu debate, martial arts in general, his home invasion, groupies, brainwashing in martial arts, and the over all reality of what self defense really is and which art is the best for self defense. This video is going to cause an uproar but it's the flat out plain truth.

FYI, Lloyd owns one of the biggest BJJ francise in USA. Team Lloyd Irvin has produced many UFC fighters. His view is intersting...

So a bjj guy admits that Sambo (Russian) and Chi na (Chinese) martial arts saved his life. The debate is finally over over which style is best...

He's a bit outspoken, I don't really like listening to him but fair ****s to him for seemingly not caring.

He said that his Sambo didn't helped, and then in the same sentance said it was his sambo that helped.
    Rambling was apt imo.

    Hi Mellor,

I know he's said he is speaking for the first time about his house invasion. You know this is about an event in which he woke to find two men with guns, in his home, pointing them at him?

If he is telling the truth about this event, there's a possible explanation about his rambling. Stress. Even PTSD. Any civilian who has genuinely had guns put to them, with the threat of the guns being used will likely be mentally scarred for years to come. It's something him and I share.

Another thing i experienced while sharing my experiences at the wrong end of terrorism here, is when i began to use it in a teaching format i would go through many physiological changes. both when I wrote bout it/had it published in MA mags, and in person in courses. It was really surprising for me. Up until then i put it (the certain experience i was sharing) as down to simple occupational-hazard being in a gang up here in N.I. This was my own first indication i had PTSD. And it was after six years of the actual event.

If he is rambling some, and he is, and he is jumpy, which he is, it may be an indication that he in fact scarred inside recounting what he is. And for the first time. It may be useful to look a little deeper.

It takes once to go through what a house invasion is like, and one including guns, before one can really appreciate the way it makes any human feel. I don';t know if it is a factor. I do know i had to compose myself lots in a course talking about one event that happened to me. All could see what i was going through.

As an aside, i've just wrote a blog entry touching on this fact last night...

    Hi Wayne,
Oldman made a comment about sambo being the best MA as its what the BJJ instructor used in real life. He was joking.
I reminded him that sambo somehow both helped and didn't help in the one breath. I was also joking.

I wasn't trying to comment on his psychological state. Maybe he's scarred, maybe he's always been like that. Who knows?

The only thing that would have Lloyd Irvin "Scarred inside" would be seeing the dollars drying up...

no probs, :). I shouldda used the quote better, i was replying to the 'rambling is apt'. I was disgressing to general comments really as well.
