Considering ringing up & cancelling the HD package, but...............what would I loose, mainly interested in Eurosport, as they now have 2 * HD channels and I think the 3rd one is an SD version od ES 1 ?!

As far as I know,,all you will lose is the HD channels,,which includes the F1 channel.

You will still have the channels you had,,just not in HD.

Also depends on what package you have.

All the basic packages, ie. no movies or sports.
I was wondering what Eurosport channels would I be left with.
I'm presuming ES is only on the Sky package, or are there other options ?

Well,,I have the basic package with Sky..I.E. €33/month.

It's not HD,,and I have both the Eurosport and Eurosport 2 with that package.

I presume you have Sky,,and not UPC..?

If you only drop the hd pack and hold on to the basic package you will still get both Eurosport channels as part of that package.

Yeah I have the dredded Sky package, "believe in better" (as long as you're paying them loads of money :().

I suppose I ideally would like to drop Sky altogether (family budgeting) and go for 'Free', I'm just trying to see what the options are, ie. what will I loose, what will my wife & kids loose.

I think it's madness paying 'extra' for HD, ie. it's just better resolution, it's 2012 and we're having to pay for something that should be 'standard' at this stage.

So back-on-topic, basically ES is only available on the Sky package, if I went 'Free' I wouldn't be able to 'tune it in' or I'd probably have to get it from a different satellite (or something :o).

If you want to go "free" on your sky dish..This is what you get...http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055520627

Other than that,,if you want Eurosport,,you have to have a dish pointing in a different direction.

Sky currently have an offer for current customers - free HD+ box and HD sub is €5 per month for 12 months.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,146 ✭✭✭Morrisseeee

I actually had that offer, but alas the 12months is up.

Chance your arm & ask for another offer, they'd rather get €5 a month off you than nothing.

I'm thinking of doing the same. What number do you ring to change it, is it the 0818 number that takes you through to sales in Cork or is it a UK no. I was thinking of emailing them but that way they might not make any offers.

I'll bump this Q, what's the best no. to ring to cancel or make a change (w/o costing me a fortune or several hours of waiting) ?

The normal number is 0818 719819 and follow the prompts. This could get you through to any Sky call centre from my experience.

To get through to Cork apparently you call 0818 762867 but its going to cost you the same money on the cost of the call though.

Channels that have no SD counterpart ....
All I can think of is ...

    MGM Movies
    Sky 3D
    BBC1 HD (Sometimes)
    NHK World

Discovery & Nat Geo used to have specials on HD only, but I think they are gone.

HD channels should be free for Sky customers at this stage, the same content but just a slightly better picture, ridiculous really. Marketing ploy and nothing more.

If you have a decent broadband connection you could subscribe to Eurosport Player. I think it's €40 per year. That includes the channels, and often extra streams for things that aren't being shown on either of the channels.

That's a lot of money for Sky to give up if they dropped the HD charge. Customers are paying so it would be madness for Sky to drop it.

Family member got it. I'll contact him and post back.

Edit: He rang them and asked for their best HD offer.

Earlier this year Sky added reception of Sky Sports F1 channel for HD subscribers.

No, I don't have a decent connection, if I did I'd definitely get rid of Sky.

I'm definitely going to ring them and cancel this HD option, it's a bit foolish to be paying €15 (€180 per year) extra for something that should be standard at this stage.

As has been pointed out by others, it really needs more & more people to do the same thing, ie. ring up & cancel, in the end HD will just be standard anyway.

Hi, I'm thinking of stopping my subscription to Sky+ and just receiving the free Channels. Does anyone know will the Sky recorder still work if I'm only receiving the free channels? (i.e. if I series link Break Bad on TG4, will it still record for me?)

It won't and when you're out of subscription you'll also lose the Irish channels as they're encrypted.

There are Freesat+ boxes that will do much the same job (some say better) as a Sky+ box but these too would not have the Irish channels.

I don't think that your recordings on your Sky box will play back if you are out of a subscription.
