Hi, looking to turn my 3½ year old PC into a HTPC and need advice on what I need to add to it.
It'll be used mostly for watching streaming sites like liveonlinefooty etc as well as looking at my ripped movies.
I'd like to have a remote and I suppose I'll need to add a graphics card with a HDMI port.
    Any other suggestions?

Sell it and build something lower in power and quieter. Your requirements in a HTPC aren't that high to require such high specs. Quads are power hungry and require big fans to keep them cool.

Don't want the hassle of selling it.
Can I buy large quiet fans (or make the existing fans quieter)?
I'd prefer to modify this system rather than selling it and buying a new one...

I think you're mad. The idea of a HTPC is that it's low power and silent (no moving parts), you could build something that draws ~30W with the money you save in a few months on electricity. Check out this thread. You'd sell that pc easily enough on Adverts.ie
