looking to make the switch, but staying within the same bank (ie. AIB MC to AIB Visa).
does anyone know if there's much work involved in this?

Not really a way to switch as such. It is just like getting a new card.

Not that there is much of a difference

got to ask, why change? They are the relatively the same levels of acceptance globally these days, with a few exceptions.

Most banks do one or the other. If your banks does both than ask to get the other one.

I moved a number of years ago from the Gold Mastercard to the Platinum Visa. No problem - just rang them up, new card arrived a few days later. One thing to note is that it will be a new Card number, so you'll need to change any websites that have your card details stored or any DD's coming off the card.
