2006 Galaxy 1.9 tdi 6 speed Gearbox

Hi lads. Bit of a problem with a 2006 galaxy belonging to a friend. Its an 06 1.9 tdi 6 speed
Mechanic says that the bearing in the gearbox is gone and the gearbox will need to be replaced, hes quoting 1400 euro for a recon box plus labour.

Been looking around for galaxys and sharans for breaking and will be ringing Traynors in the morning.

Anyone know of his cheapest option here and also what other models carry the same gearbox, hardly all 1.9 tdi's? does it go by what bhp the engine is?

Recon box is always a better idea, I think those 6 speeds don't have a brilliant reputation anyway

Maybe try a gearbox specialist like naas gearbox centre and see what they say.

Yeah they seem to be a common failure alright, he was looking to sell or trade it in fairly soon anyway so id say when its fixed he will be getting rid.

Anyone know if 1400 for a recon sounds steep?

€1400 sounds a bit high unless it includes a new clutch etc.
