I stumbled upon a Youtube video some time ago showing this being used and was pretty impressed. Forgot all about it until the last time I was in Halfords and spotted a can for €9.99 (and in the three for two offer) so picked up a can to give it a go.

When I bought the wheels back in February, I applied a coat of CG Wheel Guard which I figured was starting to wear thin at this stage. I'm far, far too lazy to go at the four wheels again as they're a pain in the arse to clean never mind seal and buff. The ArmorAll Wheel Shield is just a simple aerosol that you spray on and forget about. They recommend that you leave the car sat up for at least an hour after application, but the longer you leave it, the better protection. I usually apply it before settling in at home for the evening, and leave it dry overnight.

I was a bit apprehensive at first, being an ArmorAll product, but I've been using it after washes every week since and its made a HUGE difference in keeping the brake dust and general road grime away. Any dirt that does stick comes away with a power washer with no need for any wheel cleaners and the water beads of the wheels like mad.

My exhaust tips get a little bit blackened too so I tried it on them also. Same principle again, they stay cleaner for longer and the dirt just falls off with some water.

One of the only downsides is that it probably doesn't last as long as proper wipe on / buff off sealants, but considering you can do four wheels in under a minute I've no problem using this regularly instead. Like all wheel sealants, your wheels need to be really clean unless you want to seal the dirt in. Although, they recommend an hour's waiting time, I think you're better off leaving it much, much longer than that. I drove the car just after an hour before once and the stuff ran and picked up more dirt than it should have. It came away easily with a micro fibre but still. It's also safe to get on your brakes but I always left foot brake out of my estate anyways just to be safe.
