Just looking for reviews on Westwood Clontarf. I was considering joining. I believe they have an offer of 15 or 16 months for the price of 12 when you pay up front which seems ok. Whats the gym like now. Also if anyone does any of the classes especially the likes of Bodypump or Kettlebells can you just take part in one from the start or do they have special introductory classes for new members. I have never doen a kettlebell class before so would need to learn the technique etc first:D

I've been a member there for 10 years. I think it's a great gym. It has all the facilities and equipment you could need, and also has the pool, tennis courts, climbing wall etc.

I don't do the classes but I know from people who have done Bodypump that they had to do a technique class first. I'm sure they do the same, or similar, for the kettlebell classes.

The only complaint I'd have about it is that the free weights are a bit the worse for wear, and nobody seems to give a crap about putting stuff back when they've finished using it.

I never have to wait for equipment, but I'm only there in the mornings when it's quiet, so this may not be the case at busy times.

Can only comment on the weights area also. Plenty of plates, a lot of then rubber coated and worn but they do the job.

Three cages (one is a bit crap) and a squat rack, about six or seven flat benches, couple of incline and a decline too. About another ten free benches around as well.

Heaviest dumbbells I've seen were 55kg though there may be a 60kg pair somewhere too.
Bars have worn knurling, not good for deads or squats sans chalk. There are two power bars though, or at least a good imitation of one.

Very busy in the evenings Monday - Thursday, never waiting for a cage, rack or flat bench but would have a wait for free benches at times.
Loads of cables and other machines too if that's more your thing.

If budget is a concern then there are certainly better options but if you live or work nearby then it's very convenient and has everything you need.

Edited for spelling, typing off mobile and have fingers so fat they're only fit for mashing a keypad.

Hey, I'm a member over the last few years and would give it the thumbs up (had been in Total Fitness & Slender Health prior)

The big pull for me is the range of classes - and I love both the bodypump and kettlebells which you mention. Great spin studio as well. Most classes have 30min versions for newbies and longer classes should you prefer a proper sweat! ;)
