Anyone know if this can be claimed in year of separation. Never jointly assessed.

When your circumstances change , so do your entitlements .

But in your case , your credits will remain the same in year of separation .

Your ambition , must always be to attempt to increase your tax credits and therefore reduce your tax liabliity.

You may not have been jointly assessed in the past , but the tax office will always give you whichever is more beneficial .( but best to ask them )
