Can anyone help with sourcing a second hand alloy. My wifes front wheel got damaged and need a replacement. It 16" for a Volvo S40. Phoned and emailed many dismantlers who are breaking Volvos but most dont seem bothered to even go and look. Its as the attached picture. Thanks.

I reckon these are quite common.

Bang your reg number into www.cartell.ie and figure out what trim level you have, then go onto www.partfinder.ie and find the same spec,

    Also try traynors up north.

    Thanks Colm

Tried partfinder and findapart but not one reply also emailed pic to Traynors and they did not respond either. Even if someone could tell me the name of the alloy I would be able to search online for it.

The problem with secondhand alloys is that if a breaker has four, they will not split a set. Also a model of car could have several different styles of alloys fitted, in addition to steel wheels (think of all the different styles of alloys fitted to the mk1 focus for example, but there is only one type of door/bonnet/etc). So you are looking for a specific alloy from a breaker who is willing to sell one on it's own, not easy.

Breakers are generally not renowned for their customer service ethic (before anyone complains, some of my friends are car breakers !). Your best bet of getting a response is to call to your local breakers with the car or the photo of the wheel.

If I happen to see one locally I'll PM you.

My volvo alloy broke a couple of years ago volvo wanted €500 for a new one!!

I looked up some of the UK spare parts websites Should the spec of the wheel online and the model number and it was as easy as filling in a form on the website and it sends it off to loads of car dismantlers. I got it delivered with a tire on it for £130. Best to talk to them on the phone once they find one for you.

    Thanks

Took your advice and got one for £60.00 in the UK with £20.00 postage.
Still no dismantlers from here have got back to me.

in my experience phoning a breaker is a waste of time, they get hundreds of calls a day from people enquiring about different parts and your call was just another one, they only people they have time for on the phone are local mechanics,as somebody already said your best bet is to call to them directly with a picture of the part you require and then haggle like your life depended on it!!.
