Civic idles high when cold

    Hi All

The car is a 2000 Civic 1.5cc saloon.

Whenever I start the engine from cold it idles at about 1900 RPM, It stays quite high until the engine warms and then it goes to normal

There is no issue when the engine is warm.

Could anyone advise what the problem here could be?

I was also wondering what should the correct idle be when the engine is started from cold

    Thanks in advance :)

My car does the same except at about 1500rpm

    Only for about two mins..

I've heard its an automatic choke that helps to warm up the engine to help fuel economy.

So hopefully that's all it is for you too

1900 seems high but all cars idle higher when cold

A 92 civic saloon i had used to idle around 2k when cold but settle after 2 to 3 mins, even in high summer.(auto choke) think it was a 1.4dual carb

By a small half blip of the throttle you could turn it off.
