Walked into the Finglas Rd Esso station and bought a Big Money Scratch Card. Got 3 stars!!! Is this common? I'm sending it on in the Post for a chance to appear on RTE. Too bad Nuala Carey isn't hosting...

yes. your chances of getting on the show are not that high. I have sent off at least five envelopes with the stars and never got anywhere.

I also never seem to win more than 8 euro.

Isn't the big money game over as off August 22nd?

    Common enough I am afraid.

I seldom buy them and I have gotten 3 stars once.

You go into a draw to get onto the show. Good luck.

But really you couldn't pay me enough to go on that show.

If you are not selected for the TV game, do you win anything for getting the 3 stars?

Yes, you go into a draw to win a trip to outer space, that's why you have to match 3 stars and not 3 TVs.

So the bastards stole my 3 euro and just enter me into a draw for a chance to appear on TV. You have to love government run gaming!

You go into a draw with thousands of other tickets, a hundred of them tickets are drawn to enter the drum on the TV show. This makes it a lot less likely that your ticket will be pulled out because you have to be drawn twice.

I'd just cringe if I had to go on one of the those shows. That's why I keep my gambling to horses and such. If I win in the bookies I just collect, I don't have to be interrogated by Marty Whelan lite (Brian Ormond).

I guess I'll stop spending the 50,000 euro now.

My mums good friend made it on to Winning Streak, she got to spin the wheel and won € 50,000. She is the most kind caring lady who worked in the health service for years and always had helpful words and a hug for anyone dealing with health issues/crisis. She richly deserved it. Also they each had a glass of champagne backstage with Marty Whelan, who was a gent apprently.

You'll be wasting 55c on the stamp because Big Money is finished. It's Winning streak Season again. Actually you'll always be wasting 55c on a 3 star ticket for the reasons described above.

Sadly op, its quite common to get 3 stars.

They've got a great business plan. Have thousands of cards that reveal 3 stars. Makes us feel like we didnt lose... but still have a "chance" of winning money. While in reality the chances of getting on the show are extremely high. So we'll just continue buying tickets hoping to scratch the big prize (which i seriously question how often that gets won) or to get on the show.

Its a great con ... because its not really a con (in the sense of legal terms)

Statistically it doesnt make no difference how many times you have to be drawn out, only matters how many other tickets are there.

    I dunno man :P
Like, lets take winning streak, you have to be lucky enough to make the short list (which looks like, what 50 tickets in the barrell live in studio?) then have to be one of 6 tickets pulled out to be on the show? :pac:

I cant help but feel its like me asking someone to hit the bullseye from 20 feet away ... but I ask them to hit it twice (albeit, i reduce the distance for the second shot) :P

They wouldn't print any scratch card if it wasn't profitable to them.

Same with the bookies and the casinos vis a vis profit. At the end of the night, they are usually the only ones with any money in their pockets.

are you mad? that's exactly what they are doing. they are PAYING you to go on the show and quite generously too. i think it would be a laugh. just sitting there being given holidays and cars and money up to some ridiculous values to boot.

and you wouldn't go on this?

Spoke with someone at the Irish Lottery and he said the Big Money tickets are valid for Winning Streak. They receive 35000 entries per week, they select 100 for the bin and then the 5 or 6 are selected for the show.

    unless rainman makes an appearance.

I remember when bets were being made on who shot mr Burns. the bookies were not aware that the episode had been shown a week earlier in the US and the students on their j1er made a nice little profit.

it would be interesting to go on the show but i would feel more comfortable around Mooney and his insane antics rather than the forced fake smile of that blond chap.

Here's a tip to get with an ounce of chance, make sure you post it before Tuesday the draws for the 100 Tickets to go to the bin for the lads to pick out on Saturday
