Hello all fellow boardies, I am currently considering/investigating the possibility of constructing a public footpath using tar and chips over the normal concrete construction. Thus I would very appreciate any views/opinions regarding above either positive or negative. Kind regards Rebelden.

If your 'public footpath' is to be taken in charge by the Local Authority you should consider talking to the Area Engineer before pressing ahead. The course wear tar and chip is generally not for foot traffic, it would need to be a fine chip and tar like macadam.

I know most local authorities are even reluctant to allow macadam as a surface finish for public footpaths and insist on concrete or paving.
