NCT and seat covers

I have a set of generic seat covers on a Laguna II.

There are zips to accommodate split rear seats and these are opened on the bench part of the seat to reveal the seat belt catches.

Is that likely to cause a problem for the NCT? I have the test tomorrow and don't want to take a chance at them being finicky.

    Cheers,

    LD

i dont think covers are a problem, just make sure the seat belts can be got at OK (I usally plug mine all in, that way the tester has only to push the button to prove they work, rather than scrabble round trying plug them all in)

Put all the passenger seatbelts into the buckle. I've not come across a tester who will buckle them in for you. I failed becuase I forgot to put one in. I had taken the car seat out as someone advised me they have to be out. They were wrong and I could have left it I since discovered, I had the seat in correctly and secure so would have been np. When I had taken it out, I forgot to buckle the seatbelt again as I had done the others before I left for the centre that morning.

The guy told me I failed and to rebook for a free visual the following day. I just strapped it in and said check it there sure. He pulled on it, then went in to print my pass cert.

I don't think you HAVE to buckle them up, I just do as a courtesy.

well I failed because mine wasn't buckled as above. He told me they don't buckle them. When I put the buckle in, he tugged on the belt and said ok, brb.

Since then I've buckled and not had any problems. It could just be that one tester tho.

    OK,
    thanks for all that.

I usually do buckle them all up but just wasn't sure about the seat covers as I have never put one through before that had after market covers.

    Wish me luck! ;-)

Conventional seat covers cannot be fitted in vehicles with integrated side airbags as they prevent the deployment of the airbags which become trapped under the car seat cover. This could be a disaster waiting to happen. You could be injured worse by the airbag not deploying properly then the crash itself.

You have to make sure the covers are made for your specific car model and include the correct tear away panel/stitching to allow airbags to deploy correctly. the laguna 2 has airbags in the front seats and can have them in the rear seats, but the rear seats are optional and may not be fitted to your car.

But i dont think the nct will fail you for it.

    Thanks mate.

They are generic seat covers, but they do have the the proper panels to accommodate side seat airbags. There is a badge on each front seat cover for the airbag and the tearable stitching to allow correct deployment.

Though the covers are generic, they are approved for a list of cars, my own being one of them.

Right well, it failed the NCT, but not for the seat covers!

A bloody ball joint is buggered on the front offside!

Ho-hum, at least its a wear and tear item, as opposed to some failure or flaw.

    Cheers all

Beware that tiger or leopard print seat covers are an automatic NCT fail.

I hear they are planning on introducing automatic fails for pink seat covers, pink steering wheel covers etc. While they believe the car may be mechanically sound it just can't be deemed roadworthy with the owner behind the wheel.
