Customs Duty on replacement item

I ordered a tablet pc via the etihad rewards program and got charged 35 euros customs duty. Fine with that, however the tablet was dead on arrival, and it's likely I need to send it back (to dubai) for replacement.

Do I need to directly inform customs that I've already paid the duty, or can I get the company sending it to include a copy of the receipt showing I've paid it already?

I only know from a lad in the PC forum - but I think you do need to get in contact with them.

Found out the details, so answering my own question in case anyone else wants to know in the future.
    • I post back the faulty product via An Post and ask for a "Certificate of Posting"
    • The replacement/repair product coming back should be labelled "Replacement Goods", and where possible a copy of the receipt of the original customs duty payment AND the certificate of posting should be included.

As I paid my duty as COD to the shipping company, it is possible they will still charge me again, however I can claim it back via the following:

email: cargodap@revenue.ie & attach copies of the receipts.

I have paid partly using miles and extra 70 euros, so on the invoice

it says xxxxx miles plus 70 euros

Would the VAT be charged on the cash i paid only? or the the full product price based on the market price

Contact the Customs in an airport, they'll be able to tell you how VAT will be charged in this case.

I was charged VAT on the lower price. i.e. in your case the 70 EURO. Had to pay UPS cash on delivery.

I ordered an ARCHOS 101. Dead on arrival. That's another story.

EDIT: delivery was quick. they said two weeks but it was a few days.

    Hi guys
Am ordering some electrical item from etihad miles I have . At the checkout option it says that I might have to pay Vat
Does anyone know anything about it ? The item might be worth 85€ but am buying it al thru miles
Need a quick response . Thanks

    Necrooooo.

But for the sake of brevity:
    Say the item costs E85
    And P&P is E5
    Then 85+5 = E90 * 0.23 = around E20 in taxes and fees.

Revenue don't care that its miles purchased.
