I have an acer laptop running win7. It boots slow and takes an age for progs menu to react to clicks. Its only a year old. Iv checked startup items and dont see an issue, no processes going crazy on reasources. Boots fine into safe mode.

Randomly locks up without a bsod or any errors. Im thinking it could be a driver problem. Ran chkdsk and found no.problems. Going to run memtest and hdd diagnostic cd in a minute.
    Any other suggestions?

    Save your files and reinstall?

Sometimes it's the easiest way around these kind of issues.

True, trying to narrow it down with no indicators does prove time consuming.

Just noticed that it acts normal after wifi connection is established, could it be loading wifi card drivers/settings slowig it down?
Would explain why it boots ok in safe mode to.

there is prob a recovery partition , google the model and how to access the recovery partition then do a factory reset. Make sure to back up all your stuff first.

Found that Nokia OVI Suite was causing the startup issues but couldnt find anything relating to the crashes.
Decided to back up all there data and do a factory reset from the recovery partition.
Now it hangs at 49% of the reinstall. Seatools and chkdsk came back ok, memetest came back ok. Could it be cpu movement after the laptop heats up? i can see a crack in the lower left corner of the case that could suggest it being dropped but as usual they are denying all knowledge of any kind of knock or bump.
