    Well shur why not?? :pac:
First ever All Ireland final between these two teams. Donegal won their only final appearance against Dublin in 1992. Mayo's trials and tribulations in All Ireland finals recently are well known.
An extremely novel pairing and it's the first time since 2001 that none of Kerry, Cork or Tyrone have made the final. Donegal will probably be raging hot favourites having dumped both Kerry and Cork out of the championship and given Mayo's near capitulation today. Can't wait. Should be a great day.
Best of luck to the fans of both sides on their respective ticket hunts.

Also, Meath will play Dublin in the minor All Ireland final beforehand.

Nice for football to have two new teams in it and it will be the first year in a long time that i wont be shouting for any particular team. Hard to call. Donegal are playing the best football but Mayo are dangerous as underdogs. Congrats to both teams for reaching final.

Best of luck to Mayo in their 13th final, they have lost 9 finals and won three, they have also lost there last five finals to Kerry (3), Meath (1) and Cork (1). They are badly overdue an All-Ireland as it is 61 years since the Sam Maguire went to Kiltimagh. I for one hope they win it as Kerry person who has seen my own county benefit from Mayo's woes so many times before.

It will be great day for Gaelic Football and shows how much alive the sport is unlike the snorefest Hurling has become since Kilkenny killed off all interest in the sport with their dominance.

Expect the media hacks to salivate over their expectation that Mayo will choke somehow on the big stage.

Delighted with this matchup, a real novel pairing with just four All Irelands between them (Mayo in 1936, 1950 and 1951, Donegal in 1992), the first time the pair have met in an AI Final.

A lot of Donegal people were hoping to get Dublin in the final to exact revenge for the semi final loss last year from talking to them after the game last weekend. Interested to see what people make of this. If Mayo fade as badly in the last 20 minutes as they did today then I can only see a Donegal victory. But if they can maintain the intensity that they showed for the first 50, you never know.

Let's be honest, Donegal needed to take revenge on Donegal for last years shocking performance. They are a different team this year, producing quality football and some of the most exciting stuff seen from any county. What a difference a few months can make.

I reckon Donegal can do this, and I'll be cheering them on their way

It's hard to know how this game will go to be honest, but Mayo are the underdog team

Although, exacting any sort of revenge on ourselves might not be the best idea :(

I suspect that the difference on form play will negate any benefit in being the underdog. Couldn't believe mayo trying to take the late chances at goals instead of getting back the points. Today's performance does not match Donegals recent plays.

Hopefully we won't be seeing the same level of bad sportsmanship with brawls and the like.

Croker will be packed . Donegal by 5 points I reckon. Better team overall Is why....not accusing the new Mayo generation of being chokers.

:D More chance of Neil Armstrong walking on the moon (again?) than getting a ticket for this particular final, will be like gold dust. Never mind The Gathering 2013, the Donegal and Mayo diaspora will be making the return home for this one.

If it were, the decision over which county wears a second jersey would be made by the toss of a coin.

congrats mayo going to be one hell of an occasion and i reckon a better spectacle for the pairing... although i wanted dublin in the final...not just for last year but of the 4 semi finalists i think they have had the poorest form of all...
took an extra long lunch break to watch the semi today... played some great stuff before dublin climbed back into it (wont complain if they repeat the last quarter!)
sam is heading west again! just hope its north west!

I'm quietly confident about Mayo's chances as they have been steadily improving in Connacht in recent years without the hype that surrounded previous Mayo sides. However they nearly blew it with today's second half performance. And looking for goals where points will do isn't going to win matches, but I can't see them repeating those mistakes.

The tag of underdogs going into the final will suit them too.

Its great to see both these teams in the final.
I'd love to know what odds you would have got on such a fixture back in May.

Shít stirring comments like that are best ignored, but I'll just say this, if you really think 'all interest' in hurling has been killed off, can you please explain why its next to impossible for me to get my hands on a ticket for next Sunday.

What a great championship the Football championship has been this year and great to see Donegal and Mayo winning through to contest the final.

I backed Donegal at 6/1 on the day before their Kerry game to win Sam and I'm quietly confident they'll do it but I tell you I would be more than happy to lose my 20 euros If Mayo win it,they've had their share of heartbreak over the years so they like Donegal deserve to win Sam too. However I feel Donegal will win by 3-5 points.

Donegal 1/2 favourites, handicap is 2 points.

I'll be for Mayo. As a Limerick person, know all about losing hurling finals, but good to see 2 new teams get to the final.

Mayo seriously impressed me today, defended in numbers, attacked in numbers, reminded me of another team I know!

The only that would worry me from a Mayo perspective was those 15 minutes they fell asleep, yes Dublin were always going to come back but Dublin might as well have had midfield and the breaking ball to themselves. Only for heroic defending and an excellent save Dublin could have punished them.

Neither team gives away easy frees but both have good free takers, 45's given away will count as a score against.

I think this will be tight but Donegal will win midfield and the breaking ball at the vital time, as they did against Tyrone, Down, Kerry and Cork.

I'm no expert in gaelic football, but 2 things struck me

    1. Dublin looked awful, how they won last year is beyond me.
    2. When Mayo collapsed, they were dreadful, and really could have ended up losing the game. For those reasons, it would be hard to look beyond Donegal.

Not many would have called this Final pairing at the start of the year. Mayo will have absolutely nothing to lose but on both teams performances all year Donegal are 3-4 points the better team.

Maybe not a snorefest, but uninteresting to anyone outside Kilkenny

Back on topic..... The heart says mayo, but the head (and the betting account) says Donegal

Donegal had them for the taking after 45 minutes last year, no point going over raked coals!

Dublin were abysmal in defence for those first 50 minutes today. Some of the Mayo scores were sublime, the foot passing a joy to watch but we all know they wont get that freedom in the final. McHugh will cut out a lot of the passes in to the FF line and Donegal will bring more back if needs be. At the same time they'll be happy to keep it open like the first 25 minutes against Cork.

Ah, the dream final: one team with 14 players in its own half; the other, half of whom will be suffering from cramp at any given time and the other half incapacitated as their hands will be glued to the opposition jerseys. A spectacle to be relished - NOT !

You must not be a genuine supporter because if you were you would have paid your GAA membership to your club which would have guaranteed you a ticket for the All Ireland Final.

Again you are a typical example of a person who has no interest in hurling but demands a ticket then when your team reaches a final. Sunshine supporter. In that case I hope you dont get any ticket. Serves you right!.

As a Mayo fan it may seem a bit biased but Mayo vs Donegal is a better game for the neutral than if the Dubs won!
A novel pairing that ensures one country will end a long (or relatively long) period without Sam!

Now, now - calm down, just a tad of capital city humour and nobody's living anywhere but the present ...fact is that both teams are preciously defensive machines with a propensity towards going neg. Yesterday and last week - and, if I may say so, the Donegal behaviour particularly during the Kerry match - suggests that the final will hardly be free-flowing, classic Gaelic football.

there was 35 points scored today, and i forget what donegal scored against cork, the final will be a good game, who ever gets a goal without reply will win it,

I agree....... you're no expert in gaelic football.

I'll go for Mayo by a point.

Donegal probably deserve the favourites tag but i don't place as much weight on them beating Cork and Kerry as most folk do. If the trend continues and they play orthodox in the opening 20 or 30 minutes before retreating Mayo might have a lead on them which will make it very interesting.

Having seen Mayo in the QF and SF up close i'll be interested to watch how they handle Donegals counter attacking game. There's a real cynical, some would call it pragmatic, edge to their game. No doubt they'll do everything to slow or stop the runners from deep, legal and illegal. If their forwards show for the ball with the same regularity i think they'll get some joy against 'the system'.
