    Moved from bangeromics

Back to the world of Bangernomics.
I bought a 00 BMW 320d at Merlin Auctions. It's not in great condition. It needs a new windscreen, a good cleaning on the inside, and a new sensor to remove some dashboard lights.
It has 170000 miles on the clock and is driving well. 3mths NCT but it was only done in June so shouldn't be too much to do.
It is making a weird noise that I will have to get my mechanic to look at but doesn't seem to bad.
All in it cost me €1100.
    I'm delighted with it.
Does anybody know of any issues that are common on these?

    good luck with the purchase!
google "bmw 320d swirl flaps removal" Markens2, and do it soon.
Re; the purchase, was it really a good buy? Like, for the outlay of 1100 then you need a winscreen, a sensor or 2, maybe some brake pads, a valet, a new nct and a mechanics inspections to address the wierd noise, you could be up to a total outlay if lucky to over 2k.

Would you have gotten a better high miler 320d privately for 2k? You'd have had a proper chance to test it anyways?

Still, I'm not pissing on yer parade, and good luck with the new jammer.....hope she serves you well.

Not sure it was a great buy but if the worst comes to the worst it can go back to the auction and give me some money back.
I had it checked out by a mechanic mate and he said that the sensor that I need is €40. I'll valet it myself, the windscreen might cost a few quid but I reckon all in it will cost about 1600 which is not too far off what they are priced at on donedeal.

Was this an issue on the 2000 136bhp engine? Thought it was on the 2002-2004 150bhp version.

I had one of these - the biggest outlay I had was for a new flywheel and clutch. It was a 2K job in total, and that was with an indie (albeit an expensive one). The flywheel alone was 900, and I didn't have time to try and find a non-OEM one. I don't know if this was common or not, but might be worth investigating.

Did it come with any service history (receipts, not just stamps in a book)?

if you've windscreen cover on your insurance, get a new screen thru' yer policy.
good on you - a cheap buy that'll do the job, well wear.

I was going to say the same thing. The swirl flap issue does not affect 136 bhp models. In fact I'm pretty sure those engines don't even have swirl flaps (thankfully).
