Have only finally got around to watching 50/50 and it really got to me.

It had me chuckling away without bursting my sides laughing but I was also in tears at one point aswell
the scenes just before he goes in for surgery
It may be something to do with the fact that I had cancer when I was younger that it got to me, i don't know.

So ladies and gent... last film to make you laugh and cry AND explain why?

p.s anyone find 50/50 like this too or just me?

Toy Story 3 was a massive 'lump in the throat' film alright (as was Up actually, God damn you Disney/Pixar) but as I was watching with other people I managed to keep the tears away :)

    Planes, trains and automobiles.

I defy anyone not to get something in their eye when Neal (Steve Martin) goes back to the train station to find Del (John Candy) still sitting there at the end of the film.

The Notebook was one film that almost made me cry. Very sad and beautiful film.

    Toy Story 3

Most of the movie was hilarious but the ending was flippin' heartbreaking!

    Yes, some very funny scenes.

The only movies that have ever made me shed big boy tears(:D) Are Terminator 2 when Arnie is about to be lowered into the pit. "I know why you cry. But it is something I can never do". Also Armaggedon when Bruce sacrifices himself. Those are the only movies that made me misty eyed. As for movies that made me laugh. I'd probably say The Hangover just because it's the last comedy i've really seen. I haven't even seen the sequel.

One for me was Reign Over Me a very underrated film in my opinion.

I think its gets overlooked due to the fact its Adam Sandler in a serious role but hes actually very good in it shock horror along side Don Cheadle. Its the story of a man who lost his whole family in the 9/11 attack and how he copes in the aftermath.

Had some very funny, and endearing momments along with other parts were your heat goes out to him.

I doubt it. Punch Drunk Love is a relatively well liked and known film.

Probably In Bruges. Effortlessly switches between comedy and drama, and back again. Love, love that film.

That may be the case but we both know the majority of people think of Adam Sandler think of comedys straight away and a lot will find it hard to imagine him in a serious role.

My boys were watching it last week and I was walking in and out of the room while it was on. There is so much to laugh at, particularly the Ken and Barbie scenes. Then I walked in for the final scenes, my eyes flooded with tears and I had to walk straight back out and into the kitchen for a good blub! The film is absolutely perfect.

Old Yeller (another classic courtesy is Senór Walt Disney) is one from my childhood that used to get me.

The scene where yeller is shot near the end.
I can still remember balling my eyes out and screaming "don't shoot him" every time!

It got to the stage that my older sisters would pause the tape before that scene, tell me Yeller lived in this one and I would naively skip off... probably to spin in circles or whatever kids do for fun.

I'm pretty sure the idea of the thread is to highlight movies that do both (Make you laugh and cry) - Otherwise it's a bit pointless as we may as well just list every comedy and every tear jerker seperately.

On topic, nothing has really achieved this to any grand scale, movie wise - The TV show Scrubs has managed it quite a few times considering it's 90% comedy that has some episodes which just turns around unexpectedly and crushes your heart.

I'm sure there are movies which have done this but none spring to mind.

Since you brought t.v. shows up, then Futurama would definitely fit into that category also!

When has Futurama made you cry?? I'm honestly puzzled by that...

Last movie to make me laugh and cry? Probably Life in a Day. There were so many genuinely funny, touching and sad moments.

Just off using Uncle Google there, so its a film composed entirely of you tube content? Sounds interesting *off to torrents to download...

Yeah, essentially. The main idea is that Kevin McDonald and Ridley Scott asked the world to record their life on the 24th of July 2010 and send it in to them, answering some questions like: what do you have in your pocket?, who do you love? and what are you afraid of? They got something like 4,000 hours of footage from 192 countries and edited it down into a documentary. Some segments are .. quite hard to watch, so be warned.

I don't genuinely cry to any film but if I did "Jeff, who lives at home" would of been the last film to make me laugh and cry.

So not one to watch with a girl I may be hoping to sleep with?

If you're looking for such a film, and one that fits into the OP's criteria; then you have to see Amelie, which makes you laugh and ahem* cough (use this movement to wipe excess moisture from eyes) all at the same time.

I used to think Adam Sandler - comedy. Now I think Adam Sandler - s hit!

    And just to add to the thread;

Life is beautiful - little explanation required. It's exactly the type of film this thread is about.

Sideways would be another. Some real belly laughs and some very realistic, cutting looks at depression.

Just to note, I didn't actually cry at either because I'm a real man.

Have seen Amelie twice and I do enjoy the quirkiness of it, but can't say I got emotional during it. It was well, nice.

The Life Aquatic - Bill Murray always makes me laugh,
and for the last 20 mins ro so i get that lump in the throat and tear in the eye
. I've seen this a few times now and for me it's just a beautiful film. Wes Anderson isn't for everyone supposedly but i seen this when i barely knew who he was and loved it then and it's stuck with me. It's got everything, love it.
