Hey, so today I got into a big argument with my friend about BMW X5.
He says you can get any car insured at any age while I heard that there are some restrictions for insuring such big vehicles? I mean I heard somewhere that up to 24 year sold your insurance is very high and you can get like 1.6L maximum am I wrong? was I mis-informed?

so we are checking is it realistic to be insured for BMW X5 as 20-21 year old? Or would insurance companies tell us so pretty much piss off?

You can get insured on anything if you have enough money.

Legally, an insurance company has to quote you so any age can get insured on any car. It depends on how much you're prepared to pay.

You were misinformed. I know 19 year olds who got insured on 3.2 litre M3s.

They might quote you, but it might not be cheap. Did none of online quote sites give you a quote?

There must be more fun cars for a young fella to pay through the nose for, though?

oh, guess I was badly mis-informed then, because I heard before of the cases where insurance companies refuse people who are under 24 cars above 1.6l

It was just a car we saw on 1 parking lot, it was this X5, some badass dude sitting in who looked like around 22, he had huge like guard dog on his back seat and tinted windows, so we started thinking is it his car or is he even insured or not, that's where we progressed into argument :D

They might not want your business, but that's not a legal restriction they're applying.

Ah, got you. Yep, he could be insured in his own name, or he could just be playing hard man in mummy's car on which he's a named driver!

I know this Is a van not a car. But last year only 17 on a provisional licence I got insured on a lwb high roof Renault master van ha. Well over 7 metres long 2.5 litre and the insurance company could not care less. So you really can get insured in anything if you are willing to pay enough.

Thats Aviva, and they are well within their rights, unless you do their ignition course. There are plenty of other Ins co's who will quote but it could be ridiculous but if you don't fit in to an insurance co's current criteria, they don't have to quote.

If you have a number of written refusals (3 maybe?) from insurance companies then the next one you go to has to give you a quote, regardless of driver age or type of car.
