I use one of these Emitor DIGIAIR Pro meters for the few installs I do for family etc. Far cheaper too.

A bit of common sense is cheaper still,

But if you want a cheap effective meter the horizon

All transmitters and relays are downloadable to the meter and are selectable by county on the meter.

    At >€500 it's a bargain,

For bargain basement price you can get an inline variable attenuator for a few quid on ebay with F type or coax onnectors. If you turn the attenuation up to 20dB and the picture is still fine then your aerial will probably be ok long term.

Many of those cheap meters are worse than just putting the receiver next to the aerial and looking at the receivers display.

Have a look too at the saorview coverage checker map so you point the aerial in the recommended direction, with the correct polarisation, and use the correct group aerial for the channel group broadcast from that site.

Ideally you would use a meter with bit error rate (BER) and calibtrated readings but these are out of the price range of hobbiests.
