Can't remove windscreen wiper

The windscreen wipers on my '04 Focus stopped working earlier after I drove into a pothole. I can still hear the motor operating but it no longer seems to be connected to the windscreeen wipers themselves.

To try and fix this I'm trying to remove the wipers but i'm having a lot of difficulty getting the wiper off of where it is connected to the car. I've removed the nut but the wiper seems to be wedged onto the bolt. Has anyone removed one of these before? Is there some sort of tool that I need or some kind of knack to it?

The base of the wiper arm has more than likely been in place and not moved since the car was built. You need to first of all, spray a small bit of WD40 or something onto it, let it settle for a minute or so.

Then just move the base back and forth and side to side until it starts to loosen. Whatever you do, do not rip it out as you could cause even more damage. WHen you reinstall them, be sure to use a wire brush on the threaded part that the wiper arm goes onto to clean it up a bit.
