Well what car are you looking at and what sort of driving will you be doing?

FSI is a type of fuel injection technology. Its fitted to everything from 1.2, 3 cylinder engines right up to large V8's.

I had a 1.6fsi VW passat and it was certainly not economical for constant motorway/N road use. Many FSI engine types are far from trouble free either.

Ive a Tfsi and i find it only a very marginal improvement over the previous generation of engines of the approx same size and power. Mine is a turbo but still, its wishful thinking to claim that any of the fsi are near diesel in terms of fuel economy.
Still, it is worth doing some calcs re purchase cost and fuel costs for both the petrol and diesel. If you were doing small miles and were not worried about resale cost, the petrol could well be the answer but on a direct fuel comsumption comparison, there is a huge difference.

It was 1.6 passat and 1.6 A4, that interesting, what mpg are you getting?

The cost difference between petrol and des is about 2 k at at age 04 , 05,06, we would be doing about 350 per week

That's roughly 580 km per week I would go for a diesel tbh as you would really want to be saving more than 2k. So you do about 30k km a year I would go for the diesel unless you can find a economical petrol if there's such a thing ha.

That's what I was thinking, we will have to go back to the drawing board then,

I have an 07 Passat with the 1.6 FSI and my average mpg since I got it at the end of March is 38.2 I think it is. I can get the exact figure this evening if it helps. I've driven around 4800 miles in that time.

The 1.6 FSi engine was never available in the Audi A4. It used the old 8v engine right upto 2008. Also the 1.6 FSi engine was only introduced in the Passat from 2005 onwards and was replaced by the 1.4 TSi in 2008.

I still haven't got the exact figure, my laptop is down in Athlone where I'm renting, I've taken a few days holidays but will be back down tomorrow.

I drove Dublin to Killarney and back with a bit of driving down there too and got 6.48l/100km brim to brim? That works out as 43.59 mpg according to an online calculator.
