I thought even brand new cars need to go through nct if they're a taxi?

You will require an SPSV vehicle license (plate) this is what gives all taxis their unique 5 digit roof number, you can possibly buy one 2nd hand from a retiring taxi driver but there are numerous rules and regulations that must be adhered to.

    Check this http://www.nationaltransport.ie/taxi-and-bus-licensing/taxi/spsv-vehicle-licensing/
    for details

You will require an NCT for the car each year, you will require an initial suitability test, you will require a meter and roof sign and a calibration certificate, you will require a safety kit, you will require Insurance covering you for hire for reward.

Any questions ring the National Transport advice line, they're quite friendly

I'm curious as to why you want to become a taxi driver?
I ask this because you seem to have done very little research into what it entails to become one.You just sat the test and bought the car first.
You were not aware that you need a licence to operate?
You were not aware that even a brand new car needs a NCT and suitability test if it is to operate as a PSV?
You were not aware of the regulatory body responsible for PSV's and their website?

Finally, how much money do you think you will make driving a taxi?

What were you working at before you decided to do this as, a matter of interest?
I would think long and hard before investing in a plate to be honest.

Oh i done research before and i spoke with many individuals and the responce was 50/50 half of them were saying its realy nice business and u can earn handsome money while only doing 3weekend nights, half of them were saying its up to luck and the taxi business is not that gr8 now.
Also i m not totally depending on that taxi.i m doing full time security job and i always remains free on weekends,so its nice to utilize time to do some thing rather then to set at home and do nothing.
About Industry knowledge i know things but i wasn't sure some of them like NCT of new car i knew they do NCT for every taxi but i thought if its 3 year or less then they might need not to do that.
I know their website but there no proper step by stop proces for those who just done their test and need to know all.
coz they have different laws which are changing time to time.so i wanted to know exectly which way i should go.thanks for ur reply and info anyway.

So another full time worker stetching themselves to the limits of work endurance, do me a favor and stay off the roads I'm on, I see enough sleepy taxi drivers already, one more is yet another hazard to contend with

Turn off Adrian Kennedy and FM104, it gets the drivers angry and restless

    I recommend Lyric FM

Only if they are more than 3 months old or have covered more than 3,000km....whichever is sooner.

This was changed a few years ago, prior to that even a brand new car just out of the showroom had to be NCT'ed for Taxi use

never knew that about taxi's and the nct, thought it was the same as everyone else, and its just Jeremy from the phoneshow thats winds taxi drivers up, cant stand him myself, makes my blood boil.

i was gonna say get your self a full-time taxi driver sticker but your not so....:)

Yes, you will properly get a license for about 1000 euro, from some poor guy who paid 6400 to the government for it,and who now can only get that much, because of how many guys are unable to make a living, and ere trying to get something back from their ill advised investment. Now is very definitely not a good time to go into the taxi business, but you make up your Own mind, just don't say you were not warned.and don't worry about saving any gold for anyone,it only exists in Wicklowandys dreams

I got taxi plate meter and printer in 2500 i checked all over net and almost every one was selling that more then 3grands.prices up after the new law that u can't transfer the licence from next year.so there was no choice left for me to buy in that price.there was not a single person i find who was selling plate at 1000.

About warned not to go in taxi business.yeah ofcource i m warned from many individuals and many of them saying its up to luck and effort.u can still make if u do effort.so i will try once if it will not work out for me then i will put my taxi on rent.

Now the industry making new laws for taxi drivers to incourage them coz they know more taxies in dublin and not much work.
