FTV card should I get one?

I currently have a old sky box with a deactivated white card. It doesnt clear any of the Sony or Lfc channels. I rang up Setanta about their ftv card under the BAI guidelines and they said their card would have the same channels as the current card I am using and there was need for a new one to be issued to me.

Can anyone clear this up for me?
    Thanks

The old card is probably Irish & won't clear Sony tv etc. You need an English FTV card.

The one I got from Setanta doesn't clear them for me either but it works perfectly for the 'card trick' on my HD boxes.

So there probably is no point in getting their card or do they issue an English ftv card? By the sounds of them they are not too keen on issuing these cards anyway.

My old deactivated Irish sky card clears sony channels and lfc and viva

if you leave the card in for 24 hours it should let you view lfc and sony stations

I have an old Openbox F-300FTA sd satellite receiver with a card slot in it, I wonder will it work with the FTV card? I must look for it now and have a look for the old box later this evening. Do you have the email address please for applying for a FTV car? Thanks. :)

The card they issue is an English FTV card until you get it paired to your box and it then becomes an Irish one.

You can't discuss using these cards with non-Sky receivers.

So Spawker, the FTV card that I rang Setanta for last week arrived today and is issued from Sky, will it not work then after ringing Sky and pairing the card to a secondhand Sky+ HD box for the extra channels because it becomes an Irish FTV card? Will we receive a few stations that are not FTA on an ordinary sat receiver at the moment? Should I just insert the card for it to work and leave it like that? Surely people, it will expire after a short period if the FTV card is not paired? Any replies, suggestions from other people also in the know will be greatfully accepted, thanks. :)

OK here's how the cards work, sky only pair a card to a particular box when it is used to view the premium channels eg sky sports and sky movies. All the other cards are not paired, they will work in any sky box. So when you get the setanta card, it will need to be switched on ie activated but if you are not taking setanta it may even come already activated and you just leave it in sky box for 24/48 hours. i have setanta card and get sony, lfc,

when you put the card in box you get the irish epg but i use card in a spider, the card is kept alive or updated at end of each month but not sure it is that frequent.

If you get Sony tv and LFC then your card ust be paired to the box.

I have a few FTV UK cards and I lost LFC and Sony when I switched boxes.

Couldn't be arsed calling Sky again. :D

No, this is incorrect, once activated an FTV card will work in any box, the odds are it's entitlements ran out and all you need do leave it in a Sky box for 24~48 hours and the entitlements will be updated so you can view those channels again.

My experience with the Setanta card 'Sound and Vision' card is as follows.

I called Setanta to 'activate' the card, but did not place it in a Sky box initially.
It was placed in a Sky box about 48 hours after the 'activation' call (two weeks ago),but it has still not cleared the 'other channels' such as LFCTV or Sony.

It did however clear the recent Setanta FTV paralympic coverage and the LFCTV early morning 'shopping channel pre-view'.

When the card was 'activated' by Setanta no Sky box pairing information was requested or given. A later call to Setanta resulted in another rep saying that Sky box pairing was essential, but I doubt that the reps knew what the Setanta 'Sound and Vision' cards were anyway.

I am still at a loss as to how these cards are supposed to 'activate' and operate, but from the 'Sound and Vision' aspect that they are designed to address, mine seems to clear Setanta when the station is operating in FTV mode - providing of course that you have a receiver with a card slot (Sky or otherwise).

So guys does that mean that it has to be paired by ringing Sky firstly and then we will all get the unscrambled stations FTV yes? If not, who do we ring? what number to ring to make sure that we pair the card if necessary properly and to talk to the correct person at whichever call centre who will know exactly what they are doing and what we are talking about? What I am trying to convey is what exact process did the people who have all the extra FTV stations go through? Who did they contact, what did they say to that person and what are the correct numbers or telephone number to ring? This will avoid more confusion for any of us wanting to get the extra channels for as long as they are available with our cards. It cannot be that complicated, can it? Thanks, it will help a lot of us I am sure. :):D

Okay, just read your reply now after another long post already above, so we don't have to ring Setanta or Sky to get the other half dozen or so FTV channels, all we have to do you say GBCULLEN is leave our white FTV cards which we got after ringing Setanta and the channels will miraculously clear by themselves within two full days in our Sky boxes? That correct? :)

It could be that the card needs to be activated in a Sky box to get those 'extra' channels - Sky FTV - whereas the Setanta FTV channels are available without the Sky box activation.

Okay so if we ring Setanta in Scotland and get it paired to our Sky boxes by them then all of the channels should clear? That correct? Also what is the number which we should ring please? :)

My God Guys, what do we have to do exactly after we receive the card in order to get Motors Tv Sony Movies, Sony TV, the German Sports Channel and the Setanta FTA programmes etc please? Be precise for everyone who is interested in getting a card and who has one already. Do we ring Setanta in Scotland after we get the card or do nothing and just insert the card and wait? IF we have to ring them then what is the number please? This will help everyone if someone sends a sensible reply and we can get all of the possible channels with the card. Thank you readers.

tell me all the channels that you need a ftv/setanta card for and i'll check them out. i have ftv card from uk and a setanta one. I got the setanta via a POST OFFICE offer and pay 5 euro a month and will only pay 5, when i got the card i rang setanta support 0818203040. They ask for home details, contact no and email. this is an irish card so needs an irish address. when you get the card you should have an account number as well. They will ask for box ser no and box type, this is required to send the activation code. NB to get activated, have it on setanta sports and in a sky box, it takes seconds.

BUT if you dont want setanta sports it should activate itself but I dont know as I never done it with setanta card. anyway nothing to lose with ringing. i think they close early ir 6pm.

Thanks GBCULLEN, I want all of the Sony Movies and Sony Entertainment channels, basically every channel that will clear which I cannot get from my Freesat boxes and FTA receivers. I got the card on Monday morning from Setanta but the old Sky box here shows a no satellite signal is being received message, it is obviously a dead duck. It's an old Pace box. I am due to collect a secondhand SKY+ HD box tomorrow sometime so cannot do anything until after then. Is it the case that if I ring Setanta and pair the card with the new Sky box that the channels I want, won't work or clear then? That is what I am afraid of. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,678 ✭✭✭swoofer

OK i checked and the setanta opens same as ftv. check your pace box, no signal does not necessarily mean it is dead. have you got the card in slot? when you switch on an old bnox, leave card out, it will then check for a software upgrade and then download channel lists. you can check signal in menu services, and you can do a forced software upgrade. pace are good. setanta wont pair card. but the will note box serial number. i have just swopped setanta card instead of ftv, it will just change epg to irish and work away.

That is a subscription card ..... you pay a monthly fee.

The FTV card from Setanta is free of cost.
It enables the alleged FTA programmes from Setanta under the BAI Sound & Vision scheme.

Not at all like the card you have described.

Follow the instructions that come with the card ...... ring the Setanta number supplied, stick the card in a Sky box, answer the questions asked, and they will activate it.
IIRC, it is an Irish number that you ring .... but I might be incorrect.

are you saying johnnyboy if he rings up setanta and says he wants to join them only he will be sent a totally different card?

you have me totally confused, is it a different colour card? is it not issued by sky on behalf of setanta? is it not capable of being upgraded to the full sky package etc?

Boycott this Setanta marketing scam is my view. Or else get a real Setanta sub if that's what you want.

I should deprive myself of the FTV programming why?

I have viewed great coverage of the Paralympics on Setanta.
It costs nothing, and I have an entitlement to view it.

That the set up is flawed I agree ..... but take that up with the BAI.

I am saying you are speaking of a different card altogether.
The FTV card is a card to enable Irish citizens view programming content from Setanta which is supported by the BAI Sound & Vision scheme.
It is issued free of charge when applied for.

A call to Setanta when received arranges activation of the card.

No Setanta sub; No Sky account or sub or even Sky box required for the Setanta FTV programming.

Hi Watty, with the card it is a good bonus to get LFC tv, motors tv, I already get Viva with Freeview, Sony tv is ok.

Some of the ftv stuff is worth watching on Setanta, I watched a ftv boxing programme about gentleman Jim Corbett a while ago,
But I think you are right in relation to a marketing scam, because I find myself looking at the tv guide on Setanta, it would make a person tempted to subscribe.

Well my two UK ftv cards are in and switched on for months and they never cleared.

They were cleared when they were paired to the oridinal boxes, back when i paired them originally i called sky and i pretended i was from Northern Ireland.

Well, I'm very surprised about that, I sell a lot of these cards and just leave them on a channel they can clear and usually within 24~48hours they're back up and running, what on screen message are you getting?

Activated my white FTV card today after ringing Setanta and speaking to a nice Scottish lady for about five minutes or so on the phone. It is well worth getting a card I tell you as it gets you the extra FTV channels for only the price of a couple of short phone calls. :) Thanks to everyone who replied to my posts.

From experiences reported on Boards it appears that you need a Sky box to get the Sky FTV channels activated .... Sony etc ..... otherwise it only clears the Setanta FTV programming.

The above is not definitive .... just what appears to happen ....

Just some dumb questions, I'm guessing the answer is no.

Is it possible to get the Setanta card registered in NI to get UK EPG and FTA channels ?
If I pair it with a SKY+ box is there any chance I could record anything ?
If I pair it with one SKY box, can the card receive "sound and vision" programs from Setanta and the other channels if transferred to another box ?

What I would like to have UK EPG and recording on SKY+
What I need is Setanta 'freeview' working on someone elses digibox with as little hassle for them as possible (eg: I can swap boxes if the card must be paired )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,678 ✭✭✭swoofer

    here you go

    1= no
    2=no
    3=no

    4. not sure what you mean. SKY CHARGE 10 quid a month for the recording facility = 120quid a year, eyeryone would like it free.

    5. Now I am confused. FREEVIEW is a UK terrestial term and is our saorview.

Ask again and say exactly what you want to achieve? SETANTA does issue a card that does FTV channels and even I was not aware of that.

No it only covers some free to view programs on Setanta. And I would like to do this without loosing the UK channel list , recording would be bonus too :)

It's a white SKY card, and not everyone at Setanta knows about the scheme , it's all like "Who would cross the bridge of death must answer me these questions three ere the other side he see"

    http://ie.setanta.com/ie/faqs/
How can I watch programming which is funded under the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland Sound & Vision Scheme?

Setanta Sports supports programming that is funded under the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland Sound & Vision Scheme and broadcasts this programming on a free to view basis such that it may be enjoyed by anybody with satellite equipment and viewing card regardless of whether they are subscribers to the Setanta Sports Pack. If you have a satellite set top box, but do not have a satellite viewing card, we will upon request send you free of charge a satellite viewing card to an address in the Republic of Ireland in order that you can enjoy the Sound & Vision Scheme funded programming.
