Paris to beach and back again in four days

    Hey all

I'm heading to Paris next month for four days to meet a friend. I wanted to get a flight to somewhere south, but got a really good deal for Paris.

Arriving on Wednesday night and heading back on the Sunday night.

While I would like to see Paris, I would rather a chill out few days - so I was wondering if there is a night train / bus that we could catch that would bring us to a nice (and less expensive) spot, where we could relax (preferably by a beach - but not essential), and then I could head back on the Sunday morning and spend the day in Paris before catching my flight back home.

I wouldn't mind a three / four hour journey, but, after that, it would be a bit much considering I'm only there for such a short time.

    Would really appreciate any advice!!

    Thanks!! :)

    As the man says - 'I wouldn't start from there . . .'

TGV will get you far South in a couple of hours, but to be honest I think you would be mad.

Night trains will do the job too, but you lose the savings on your cheap flight

Where is your friend going to be ? I would aim for wherever they are.

Are you sure this isn't a scene from Fr Ted you are describing ?

D'ya remember the time we flew to Paris to meet Fr Len and we got the train to Nice to meet him and sure wasn't he in Amsterdam and we missed him.

Or maybe it's a matter of having chosen the wrong time: http://www.paris.fr/english/visit/highlights/paris-plages/rub_8208_stand_34146_port_18969

OP, I think you might be on to a bad idea - too much bother in the tight time-frame. It is quite possible to chill out in Paris.

I would have flown to carcasonne instead of paris, both beautiful places but if its southern french sun you want carcassone is yer place. Is cheap enough considering it is southern france!!

Nice is about 5 hr 30 on the TGV. That's my second favourite city in France after Paris. There used to be and probably is a night train still but not a cheap option.

Yeah... I'm feeling the "don't do it" vibe!

Cheers. I've heard the same since from a few other people, so Paris it is! It will be lovely - I just got an awful hankering for the beach in the sunshine there for a while. My mate is from Paris, so he would have been travelling down with me, so it really makes more sense to enjoy la ville de sophisication et de romance, as my linguistic friend told me. (Although, she also tried to teach me to say I had an apple for a head - so I'm not sure how closely I should listen to her).

    Thanks for the advice!! :)

I have done the hanging out in Paris and down to Nice by train gig a couple of times and believe me it's awesome. The scenery on the way down on the train is something to behold, great views of the alps and picturesque views of rural France. You can get good deal on 1st class on the TGV just look out for the 'prems' tickets on the tgv Europe website, über comfortable. A really great trip. 4 days no way but say maybe a couple more and it's a paln. Couldn't recommend it highly enough.
