Im still in search of a new bike.
From all the advise i have received i have changed from a hardtail MTB to a Suspension/disc hybrid and now im finally leaning to a rigid fork Hybrid (maybe with disc.) Seems better value out there for standard fork and brakes anyway.

So what are the top 5 under €1000 hybrids in Ireland today.

Im aiming for the €800 mark but with B2W i have a €1000 and have most of what i need accessory wise.
The bike is to be used on a road and normal trail combo. Nothing that needs dual suspension but gravel, pot holey and rough tracks.

Great post. Exactly the info I'm looking for myself.

The boardman team hybrid looks like a lovely all rounder at €939. Hydraulic brakes, carbon fork, 28mm tyres should be grand for most activities. 9.8k.

Similar spec in Lapierre shaper 500. A few quid more, a few grams heavier, not disc brakes.

You've also got similar specs in the Specialized sirrus, Giant rapid, Cube Hyde, and trek among others. For my money, if I had to buy in Ireland, and had to buy a hybrid, I'd go with the Boardman.

I'm biased as a Kona Dr. Good owner but I'd definitely look at Kona hybrids. I see FitzCycles have the Dr. Fine reduced to under €1000 ... I'm envious, very envious.

I can also vouch for Boardman. My commuter is a Boardman Pro, the next step up from the Team but I guess not a whole lot different to ride. Reasonably light (for a hybrid), well spec'd, rolls nicely and provides a responsive but stable ride.

I stuck a deposit on the Cube SL Cross. It was a decent price and was comfortable. Getting a few addons now and they will add a few bits free when i get it too.

Just a warning to people waiting for the 2013 range the prices are going up by 15%. I was told that by 3 different shops. The retail of Cube SL 2013 will be around €840. I paid €715. Tis worth asking your local shop,

Anymore recommendations guys? Searching the internet for hours, just cannot find anything I like.

For me it'll be mostly commuting, rough road and a bit of trail riding also.

Any bike I've had has always had front suspension, would a Giant or Cannondale with a rigid fork provide an acceptable level of comfort on the rougher roads or light trails?

When I bought my previous bike a couple of years back (a Felt), it was a simple choice, it had/done everything I needed. But recently, from looking online it seems the hybrids have been split into two categorys: "Fitness Bikes" and more "Mountain-bikey" hybrids, I can't find a Jack-of-all-trades hybrid around anywhere!

I was in the same boat a couple of months ago, looked at the Boardman , trek, giant, in the end I went for a forme pulse. I find it a super bike. There's a deal on at the minute that see's it coming in at just under €500. If you check the specs you would need to spend 1k to get similar specs. Don't rule them out. Happy hunting and good luck with whatever you decide to go with.

I bought a Boardman comp hybrid a few weeks ago for €625. Very happy with it so far.

The Trek 7.x FX series of hybrids are great. I have a pretty basic 7.2FX and have used it for a bunch of sportives (including the ROK). I got it 5/6 years ago and put a lot of km's on it but it still looks and rides like new.

They have a whole range of versions from the most basic 7.1 to the 7.7 with a version and price in there that I am sure would meet your needs.

Got a Corratec Shape about two months ago as a winter comfort bike, hasnt got disc brakes, but is a great ride, very responsive and has a good spec. Bought it for 800 yo yo's from chain reaction, cant fault it
