How much of a differance in price
personally i think the 390 is over rated and priced

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought mechanical wise they are practically the same. I have an awful hatred of the stupid gearbox in them.

There is 5 grand of a price difference. The 390 is 96 with over 6k hours the 4255 is 01 with under 3k hours...

The 18 speed has no shuttle box in the 390.. I think the 4255 is supposed to have bit more power:rolleyes:

Maybe it has a bit more alright. Is the 18 speed the 3 sticks between your legs? Its the gearbox with the stick at your right hand with the plus and minus on it for changing between ranges I hate. Its very slow and cumbersome to use.

yea the 18/6 gearbox is useless for loader work u need the shuttle(l/h forward -reverse) box for loader work and the high hours on the 390t especially with a loader on it would make the 4255 a much better option in the long run i think ?

The 18 speed has the gear lever on the right hand side with a button on it to split each gear.

Looking through ads on donedeal, the thing that I can't figure out is how someone with a 19 year old 390T with a front loader can only have 3000 hours on it????

That's just over 150 hours per year.

Does anyone here only put up 150 hours per year on their tractor?????

Yes I know what you mean ... I could really do without the extra spend but it would probably be the best road to go.. Thanks for your thoughts.

I know what you mean but there is some who probably do little work with their tractor. Id say they are looking fr a fortune for it?

I dont think they are over rated, but they are over priced. They make silly money.

OP, if it was my money, I would go with the 4255. The 4200 series are very good machines. We have had a 4245 with a loader for 8 years, very comfortable to spend the day in. If the 4255 you are looking at had the "snoopy" bonnet, its such an advantage for loader work

We would be putting up around 150 hours a year on the tractor, maybe even a bit less.
