Heading to Barcelona for a week in the next month or so. Did a bit of prior-thread research, came up with the following attractions/warnings.

    Things to do:
    - Nou Camp
    - Bus tours
    - Nearby waterpark
    - Parc Guell
    - Gothic quarter
    - Gaudi stuff
    - Zoo
    - Las Ramblas, good for food market during the day

    Things to avoid:
    - Be careful of pickpockets (not a problem, my da had a €400 camera nicked there, left it down for ten seconds...)
    - -Aquarium, not great at all.
    - Las Ramblas. Avoid at night/evening.

I do need to find a good Irish pub to watch the Leinster game that weekend, and herself wants the All Ireland Hurling Final too. Which of the 4 that I've heard of would you recommend?

    Any other recommendations/things to avoid?

There's P. Flaherty's, Plaça Joaquim Xirau - metro Drassanes and My Bar, Carrer de Ferran - metro Liceu where you can watch the matches on screen.

I wouldn't avoid the Ramblas in the evenings, be careful and aware but don't avoid it.

I forgot to mention that My Bar is at number 8 and that's on the opposite side to Molly's Fair City. I agree that the Ramblas is OK in the evening (if you're careful) and there's the nearby Plaça Reial.
I like the Bubo Restaurant just across from the main door of Santa Maria del Mar, the gardens just below the Museu Miro, the fountains that are lit up in the evening below the Palau Nacional (Font Magica de Montjuic).

Just to get you into the atmosphere, you might like to get hold of the CD 'Arbres' by Pere Figueres - (a singer from North Catalonia) that I enjoy listening to. There are other good Catalonian singers and musicians but he has had to defend the Catalonian language and culture north of the border and has made a good job of it. There's a mini-region of Catalonia I like, that's up in the mountains, called Cerdanya (or Cerdagne in French).
