    Hi guys,
Bought this tv in currys a while back. Nearly certain the assistant told me it was saorview ready.
Now parents at home telling me it isn't and that the neighbour is picking up the signal and we aren't. He's on a hill above us.
No mention of saorview on the box.

The manual is very lacking in detail but I suspect that TV does not support MPEG4 and therefore will not work with Saorview, the manual only mentions UK digital TV so it's very unlikely that it will support Saorview if it was intended for the UK market only.

Try the following, this is from the manual....

With the TV in digital TV mode, press 'Menu' on the remote control. If you're asked for a code, enter '0000'.

From the menu options on the screen, select 'Auto Tuning', you may have to wait a couple of minutes for this to complete.

It does mention Mpeg-4, H.264/AVC movie decoding in the manual so I would guess it will also decode MPEG-4 DTT if available.

Does the TV add the radio channels to epg? If the TV is receiving the DTT signal it should add the radio channels even if the TV only does MPEG-2 video decoding.

Would it be possible to check/tune the TV at your neighbours house?

Cheers ! yeah, that's what they're going to do next. I do think it will pick up the channels but the neighbours house is quite a bit higher than ours.

Is the TV working on the analogue signal at the moment?

So you have a working UHF aerial, try the procedure outlined in my post above, the one below your first post. If the existing aerial is picking up the analogue signal, it should also pick up Saorview.

BTW, I assume that when you say they can get the analogue signal that that includes TV3 and/or TG4? Give us a rough idea where they live.

If they currently only get RTE1 and 2 then they have a VHF aerial and will need to replace it with a UHF aerial.

Just to add to coylemj post, see Saorview's guidelines on existing aerials here - http://www.saorview.ie/make-the-switch/step-2-check-aerial/

I don't even see a digital mode button, only inputs and aerial is the choice that works

No analogue TV3 could indicate the aerial is receiving the signal from a transmitter not carrying Saorview while your neighbour's aerial may be receiving the Saorview signal from a different transmitter. Not all the existing analogue transmitter will be upgraded for Saorview but 13 existing transmitters will be switched on about Oct 1st. Use the Saorview coverage checker to find which transmitter is recommended for your parents location.

Most TVs don't have a digital mode button, except maybe Sony. During the initial setup of the TV you're offered tuning options like "digital channels only", "analogue channels only" and "analogue and digital channels". If the digital channels are present they may be stored from 1 upwards while the analogue may be stored from position 900 or after the digital channels, it basically depends on the model of TV. Do an auto retune of the TV and see if it finds the Saorview radio channels.

Thanks! Well you're right about the digital tv button. It is present on the neighbours tv but not ours. His aerial is pointed to a different location alright and as I've said before, he has an altitude advantage, 20 - 30 metres or so.

Our aerial is also INSIDE the attic. Must try and move it outside to see if it helps.

Thanks for the help so far!

Moving the aerial outside may not make a difference if the transmitter you receive your analogue signal from doesn't carry Saorview unless maybe you can realign it to the transmitter your neighbour receives his Saorview signal from.

Can you identify the transmitter your parents receive the analogue signal from, maybe post the TV channel's frequencies/UHF channel nos?
